I live in CA and i currently own a 1986 rx7. (i know this has been covered alot ) but since all 86 rx7's were na, would it be at all possible to pass a visual and sniffer test with a usdm or jdm s4 turbo motor??

not on an 86, unless you claim updated engine (87 or later) and meet the smog restrictions for that year.

And off to the west section

Engine swaps are legal if you do a couple of things...

1) The engine has to be either the same year or newer. (must be a USDM engine)
2) All smog devices have to be installed.
3) Have to have documents on where the engine came from and engine ID.

Maybe DJDINO can chime in since he had a registered, legal car with an upgraded engine.

yeah but would a smog tech really be able to tell the difference?? If EGR valves are in the same general area the I doubt they'd catch it.
