how long does a motor have to sit to be seized? I have a motor that has been sitting for over a year and just wondering what I should do to try to get it running again. I think I have seen a guide on what to do to a motor that has not ran in awhile but can't find it anymore. input would help. thanks

i believe it involves turning it by hand after putting some atf into the sparkplug holes...

in this case, you'd probably want to drain the fuel and put some fresh stuff in there, and keep an eye on the fuel filter in case it picks up some of the gunk from the car just sitting there for a period of time...

 

Spray copius amounts of WD-40 into intake ports, exhaust ports, spark plug holes. let it sit for an hour then turn over by hand while spraying more. Turn it slow at first.

I've seen people recommend ATF, WD40, and Seafoam. Whole point is to try to relubricate the seals that may have rusted/carbon-locked in place.

Better approach is to oil-fog the motor before it sits for a long time - - but often we don't know how long it's gonna sit when we park it.

FWIW, my 80' sat in the garage unstarted for nearly three years prior to '08. The engine itself was fine, but the carb had gotten thoroughly gummed up from dried fuel and needed rebuilding.
