Hey Teddy, what do you think about having your own forum in the Shops and Businesses section, to post updates and field questions?
Or is that better handled over PM?
Hmm, just throwing out ideas here. (And cleverly bumping this topic, to hopefully get more people to join.)

From what I understand, it's now defunct. John and I have been working together on this, not this revision, but the previous one that nobody saw. His main idea was to get a sort of calendar-ing thing we could post events and people could sign up for them. I did some research into it and came up with nothing but the stupidity of the php-nuke community, and I don't do much PHP coding so we were kinda sunk. In the meantime I wanted to get something up for the SD people.
I think what we'll do is make some kind of announcement that will be easily visible... like a graphic right at the top of the page. "Next Event: Cruise Nov 43 2007" then you click on that go to the thread in the Events section.

Just thought I would chime in, seeing the recent responses.
The message board Meiogirl refers to is still active, if what she is referring to is the Yahoo Groups e-mail list. It is the same setup that the SoCal RX Club guys are running. It was a toss-up on what to use, the forum or the distribution group. Both have their plusses and minuses.
But first, a little history ...
I am a little confused as to why people have said they could not find web sites for the San Diego crowd. We have had information up for a few years now and simple Google searches yield results. Yes, the one on GeoCities (Since about 1997.) has not been updated in a while since Mike really has not had the time and no one has stood up to do it. However, from this site one could sign up for the Yahoo groups noted above, and many have done so. The only problem with the GeoCities site is that one has to deal with the advertisements. Not being a formal club with dues, someone has to pony up the money. The link to the original club site is below.

For myself, I started out with a companion site of photographs for club activities such as the drives. Originally it was on GeoCities, but I got tired of the ads, the slowness, and the inability to efficiently upload my pages. Thus, I signed up for my own site since I had other objectives in mind. At $60 per year it was well worth it. I have not begun to take advantage of everything. Mostly because I do not have the time and my job in life, while technical, is not managing or developing websites. Therefore I have to "educate" myself when I need to accomplish something with web pages. That being said, I like the photography aspect and will make the effort to do what I need to do. My site is at the link below and is pretty much up to date with the latest activities, if not the results with photos of those activities.

In adition to the discussion items, I want to see pictures of events, cars (Best in motion.) and the people who drive them. But, not just a raw dump of the photos. When I shoot film, and now some digital, I may get half a dozen or so out of 40 - 60 shots that are good. And that is probably still after some editing for various reasons. Many of the rest may be good for minor editing and special effects of various sorts. Still more require extensive editing. Other than that, the remainder are probably just snapshots and not worth making people sift through to see the good items.
From what I have just seen of www.sdrxclub.com, this looks a bit different from what Twofer started to work on. The main goal was to provide a venue to advertise activities for San Diego folks. Some of the things we have done and talked about for a while require some committment. The latest being the K1Speed karting event. To run a race requires a minimum committed a couple of weeks out. We did not get that in spite of folks saying they wanted it.
Anyway ...
We were/are not trying to replace the rx7club.com forum. That will just fragment the community. We just need a way to bring the San Diego community together. When events are planned, they are posted to the rx7club.com forum. Trouble is that it is not a regular web page. We need something that can support regular web pages for announcements, photo essays (If you will.), sign up for events, etc. We need something that does not reinvent what is already there, but allows us to better advertise events and generate interest. In my opinion it has already been easy to identify San Diego events, but, perhaps, this will make it even more so.
Since 1999 I have organized just about all of the scenic drives we have done around the SoCal area. I use it as my excuse to get out and run the car. I would rather run the car than just look at it. Over the past years I have mixed my time with participation in a number of track events, so that has taken some time away. I was disappoihted I could not make MazFest, but we had a great time on the karting track.

For the image gallery, I have to do a bit of searching. I'm currently using one called Snipe Gallery on my work's website, and I'm pretty pleased with it.

Having the san diego site is good way to get locals to be aware of the main forum page which is the rx7club.com. I personally think that having a sub website that branch's off and strictly deals with san diego is a good idea. Better provided information for the socal area for news and events, preparing get togethers that include, BBQ'S, car meets, and car drives, and future events. I personally think that maybe having go kart meet at the mira mar speed circute would be a pretty good idea.
I don't think that the point of the san diego website is to step on anyone's toes, but to make the rotary community in which the city we live in stronger and more aware of the surroundings for upcoming news and events.
