Saw the new Skyline on track
Was bored and thought I'd post this.
While I was up at Infineon a few weeks ago, Nissan had rented out Infineon for a private test session and was running the Skyline. They showed up with an unmarked big-rig and full support crew. They tested it with a Porsche 997. The car is wicked fast and literally drove around the Porsche through turn 11 a few times and pulled away heading to the kink. The Skyline had all the typical camo bra's over much of the bodywork but it was definately the Skyline. That is all I saw though.
Not long before the 350z was released, Nissan did the same thing at Infineon.

I tried with my shitty camera phone too but it was hard to make out a car in the pictures.Anyways, I did not know it was going to be there, nor did anyone else except the head-honcho track personel.
The car sounded very throaty but quiet. It was also RHD.
The Skyline driver followed the Porsche into turn 11 a few times and once he got the car rotated before the apex, it sounded like he just nailed the throttle and the car went around the Porsche and pulled on it out of the corner.
I have no idea if the car was modified from what is going to be released.
I do know those Porsche 997's are wicked cars.

Which 997 was it? If it was a regular Carrera or Carrera S then it's not all that impressive a feat. I'd be real interested if it were the Turbo, as that's the bar that Nissan is shooting for in terms of performance. The Turbo is a hell of a car, and if Nissan has been able to match that level with the GT-R then it'll really be an impressive car.

Not sure if it was the Turbo or not. I cannot even be sure it was a 997 since all 911 type Porsches look the same to me. I am basing that on what someone else who was there with me said it was.
The Porsche was no slouch either btw.

I didn't know they only ran the Skyline with the Porsche for a part of the day.
Also, there is some bad info in one of those reagrding track layouts at Infineon.
Both AMA and IRL run shorter versions of the true track. They both run the new 9/9a complex and also the short turn 11 behind the drag tower. Of the big boys, only ALMS run the true configuration. That is also what the Skyline was running.

IIRC the skyline not being here was because of the rather strict emissions laws here and we wouldnt have been able to get the rb26 to be US emissions legal without nerfing much of its power, and the reputation and demand for the skyline in the US was not enough to warrant a newly engineered setup for the US market. Now that the skyline has been catching the attention of people in the US over the last few years ( most notably the r34 ), the market is finally opening up to allow for developement of the engine to pass the US emissions requirements.....or at least thats what i heard...i may be wrong....
kickass vids though...wish i could have been there to see it in person
