Thumbs up Sand Blasted Housings

These housing's were done here from my garage with bead glass

The housing were painted and covered in grease and grime over the years of use

They look really good for there age, wear, and tear

i used to bead blast housings during the rebuilds but found it impossible to clean the glass bead completely out so i only bead blast external peripherals now to prevent the possibility of any glass making its way into the engine. they do look good after a good blasting though!

thanks. I think im only going to bead the housing though trying to bead the plates would be a disaster during clean up.

Yes, if you blast any internal part you need an ultrasonic cleaner. It is impossible to get the beads out that are imbedded into the surface. I cringe when I see people doing this without proper equipment..

Ultrasonic cleaners are typically used to clean jewlery among other things. You basically put your part in a tank of fluid (non-corrosive) and the tank is vibrated at high frequency to free any particles stuck to the part. I'm sure there are places here in San Diego that do it for parts as big as housings and end plates. Should be in the phone book.

I wouldn't do anything on the engine. You would be surprised at how that stuff gets everywhere, and will hide in every nook and cranny. Our machine costs more than most people's 3rd gens, you're probably want to look into a shop that will provide the service. Don't expect it to be cheap, probably end up tacking on 200+ to do an entire engine..
