San Diego Mtg - 7/7/07

Location: K1Speed, Carlsbad (Change of location for this month only.)
Date: Saturday, July 7th
Time: 11:30 am (about the usual time)
Lunch: TBD, following racing

Directions: http://K1Speed.com
K1 Speed Carlsbad
6212 Corte Del Abeto
Carlsbad, CA 9200

I know the place to be is MazFest at Buttonwillow on this date, but
some of us cannot make it this time around. I was there two years ago
and had a great time on the track. Even squeezed in a second day of track
time on that Friday with Speed Ventures.

For those going to MazFest, have a great, safe weekend, and watch those
temperatures! Looks like it is going to be a bit warm in the Central
Valley.

We'll have our own fun back home n SD with a race or two in the karts.

See you on the (kart) track!

Jim wanted me to ask the group if we should, perhaps, alternate Saturdays and Sundays for meetings since a lot of folks work on Saturday.

Request approved. I've got this Saturday off, and I'm normally off on Sundays, so either is fine for me.

I guess that depends on how much you want to invest in yourself.

Check the following link for pricing details.

Bring at least $20, perhaps $40. Sounds expensive, but it really is worth it if you approach it in the right way.

Seriously, Ben, if you are able to make it, let's talk. I have a suggestion for you that is better than spending money on suspension parts. At lest for the short term.

Later,
John

The electric karts at K1 are freakin' fast. Last time we did one 14 lap circuit and all I wanted was more. It's also a safe and effective way to work on your driving technique. Between each lap you can get an idea of where you can push harder, and if you go too much, you just end up facing the wrong way. You can feel the cars under and over steer when the front tires start rubbing or the back starts sliding out.

Another cool thing is they give you a print out with your lap times and the other driver's times.

One other note, the cars only have rear brakes. So if you're in the habit of braking in a corner, you'll learn to break that habit real fast. (Which is true for our cars too. Got me into trouble at the Auto-X)

I'm down for a 3-fer, which I recall was $60. If we get enough people we can do a private deal. (Which we unfortunately didn't get last time.)

If you like driving, it really doesn't get much better than this, you guys gotta check it out.

I wish I could join you guys there. Unfortunately, the only vehicle I get to drive sometimes is a 12,000 lb armored version of a Hummer....

Have fun in the lovely San Diego weather. It was about 132 in the sun today but only 112 in the shade...lovely!

Charlie,

Good to hear from you. You'll be back here soon enough, but probably not too soon for your liking. Just don't take corners too fast in that Hummer.

We had a good time with the karts, but three sessions almost back to back made for a little soreness the next day.

Thanks for doing what you do!

Stay cool; be safe.
