SA sadness at Pick-A-Part...07/78 MFR. DATE!!!!

Went hunting today and wanted to cry...

a resprayed SA with great interior and pretty clean engine...I took a look at the mfr. date....07/78!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably one of the first in the country and its sitting in a pick-a-part. Only one minor dent on the passenger side front fender...the rest of the car is ******* CLEAN!.....WITH glass roof AND solid!!!!!

Is there a way to buy the whole car and get it reregistered with a salvage title?

7/78 isn't that early, but it is a shame to see an older SA sitting at a boneyard like that.

did you ask at the wrecker? usually you can buy entire cars then just insure with a salvage title.

It depends on your local laws.

Typically, it depends on why the car was junked.

MN actually allows you to take a car with a salvage title, get it inspected, and get a clear title again if you pass.

7/78 isn't the earliest. Mine is 3/78, which I believe is the earliest build date on a US RX-7.

CA has a special "Low Value Vehicle" re-registration that allows you to get it registered with a salvage title even if the paperwork is missing. I did that for my 85SE and it took just a couple minutes at the DMV. All they required was a smog check. I was pleased that they didn't require a safety check of the lights and brakes, which could cost a few hundred.

Of course the wrecker will sell it to you. Why not? He may just require a quit claim document from you, but I'll bet he's got a stack of them in the office.
