Ricks Performan Rotary at Pleasanton CA

Everyone have any experience with Rick's Performance Rotary here in the Bay Area, CA? Good experience and bad?

http://www.ricksrotaryperformance.com/

How about the other shop down in Sunnyvale? Which one do you guys prefer to deal with?

Thanks

are you talking about Ivan in Sunnyvale? If you're anywhere in that area definitely take it to him. He knows the RX-7 very well. Has done about 90% of the work on my car, very happy with the results. Even if you're not in the area might be worth it to drive down (I do....)

Been to Rick's once, just for some routine stuff. Was okay, nothing really special.

What do you need done?

The previous owner of my FD swears by Rick's and had all of his work done there. I've never been there personally, but my car is still in great shape. I'm in the peninsula and plan to check out Ivan next time I need something done. He seems to have a lot of respect here on the forum.

all i have to say is that RICK is the man. i have spent lots of money with him(damn oil leak) and so has my buddy. i only take it to him as his customer service is truley amazing. granted he hates to stop and talk cause time is money, but he truely knows his ****. if donovan would chime in then you can get his opinion. i second that he is expensive, but he covers all work with a one year warranty. when he found my oil leak, he decided to go digging around to see if anything else was wrong. sure enough, he found about 4 other MAJOR items that may have been over looked by someone else. i say may, but i vouch for him. great guy.

My friend had his clutch and breaks done at Ricks. He was satisfied with the service but, I think it's a bit expensive. Then again, I'm a DIY type of guy.

I do most of the stuff myself too. But just wanna bring it to a rotary specialist to check and see the condition of the engine in greater detail. I need someone to convince me that my engine is still fine.

I have been taking my FD to Rick's for over a year now and have had very good customer service. He knows his stuff and seems very honest. He is also usually pretty quick, when he's not backlogged. I highly recommend his shop.

I think you should take the car Rick. I have searched around before. That is the only shop that I would take my car to other than JRE but JRE has closed down a few years ago
Batman is rotorsport still open ?

Rick has worked on both my '84 GSL-SE and my current FD. Rebuilt the FD engine with 3 mm seals a few years back. Nothing but top-notch work!! If you're looking for someone to BS with you, Rick's not the guy. But if you're looking for one of the best rotary guys around, take it there.

It's Ivan's autopalace! 408-730-0567. I had my motor rebuilt there and a lot of other stuff done as well. Plus they have the quickest turn around time and also work on cars during the weekend as well. Once all the parts arrived, it took less than a week to build my motor, and have it in my car running after it was installed.

and rotorsports in campbell
I wouldn't take it to rotorsports in campbell. I've seen their work, they did a T04E in my friend's Turbo 2 and rigged the **** out of it. And what's with all the blue hoses and such?

I believe the guy's name is Paul.

When I first got my FD years ago, Paul did my Silicon vacumm hoses (that Ivan was skeptical at first) and it has never caused any problems.

Vinay's FD was worked by Paul and he was pleased. Itoen has Vinay's FD.

And there were a few other people that aren't forum members that are pleased with Paul's work.

As far as Mr. mazda is concern, my buddy Maz had him do work on his FD and the workmanship is awesome too.

BTW, why wouldn't u take it to Rotorsports?

There is one mechanic that I would stay away from that has been caught stealing ****, swapping out good parts from ur car and intentionally disconnecting and cutting **** like wires in ur car so u will be a repeat customer.

There are at least 4 forum members and 2 non-forum members that have had the same experience from this mechanic as well. 2 of them decided to sell his FD since he was tired of the scam being pulled on his FD. The rest have taken their cars elsewhere. I have advised a few friends that own RX7 about this individual's behavior and they have complied and taken their car elsewhere, even if it means driving across the bay to get a honorable mechanic.

There is continuing investigation on this mechanic. I am not going to reveal his name at this point.

All I have to say is that when a customer trusts a mechanic to work on his/her car and they have been caught or is suspect of doing stuff to their cars word will get out, and it gets out fast. That's all I have to say.

Rotorsports in Campbell closed a couple of years ago. Paul had significant personal and business problems that caused his customer's great pain. There are many who had to take their half-finished cars elsewhere.

I understand he has returned and opened a new shop in the area, don't know where. As noted many folks were pleased with his work, but many not.

I took my car to Paul in 1998
It took him 9 months to do my car and it was still not finished. He connected a hose to a wrong vaccum solenoid.
During this 9 months he scratched and make dings on my cars The old shop was a bit small that he has to push in and out my car everyday just to get work done on other 7s. Looks like it hit the garbage that was close to his shop.
