registration and smog q??

Hey, so I just bought a rx7 vert off my uncle, and he didn't have to have it smogged until 2009, but I have to register it to my name. Isn't there some law in California that says if its sold in the family you don't have to immediatly smog with registration?
This thing is going to be a bitch to pass..... lol

Thanks

no, thats immediate family only. uncles do not count.

should have had your uncle transfer it to which ever parent of yours he is siblings with. then from your parent down to you. paperwork mess

As far as I know, yes, that is the law. Things can change, though.

Edit: pwned by faster (and apparently more knowledgeable) posters

NO NO NO
How did you get the idea you would be smog exempt?

which is it, he sold it to you or to your father

Yeah, I read that after I made this thread....sorry

And yes, my father bought the car off my uncle and I am driving it, so that should be a sibling transfer.

What I meant by smog exempt was that I shouldn't have to get it smogged because it is being re registered, instead I will just have to smog it in the usual 2 year interval right? Thanks.
