Registering an Out-of-State 84 GSL-SE in CA

Hi, all, first post.

I'm looking to buy a 1984 GSL-SE from Washington and register it here in San Diego. I understand passing the smog is a must, but before that can be done, looks like to register any out-of-state car regardless of age, there must be a sticker indicating it's a 50-state car under the hood. Is that correct?

Thanks,

Roger

Yes, it must be smogged because it is out of state. Regardless of intended registration status.

I've never had issues registering non-CA cars.
The FC and FD emissions label just has a blanket "meets emissions requirements" statement without specifying CA/non-CA.
You will get smogged to CA car requirement though.

Thanks. I did more digging and looks like the 50-state emissions rule only applies to the cars that are new (7,500 miles or less at the time of purchase, regardless of year) with some exceptions, of course.

If not for the Governator screwing up the rolling 30 year exemption, you would be clear to go. Thanks for nothing Arnold.

The car is registered with no issues. Passed the smog with flying colors (according to the guy) and the AAA office where I registered the car didn’t even ask to see it. She looked at her computer screen and said it wasn’t asking her to verify it. I was pretty sure the smog test guy told me, since his setup was new, no electronic copy was forwarded to the DMV.
