Question about Registration
So when I bought my car I had it smogged to transfer names and re-register it and everything in 2006. The car had been smogged in 2005 before from the records the previous owner gave me.
So when the next time registration reneweal comes around would I have to smog again. Does the smog for transfer title (2006) count or would it just be the one in 2005? So I would have to go through smog again next year or would i just do it in 2008.

I belive it was similar for mine, and it's 2 years from the last registration smog inspection, so:
Say your sticker expires in Jan. You had it smoged, you sell it in Feb. smog & transfer it, then two years from Jan you'd have to smog again, since that's when you re-register... and they won't let you skate another year...
If on the other hand your sticker expires in Mar. and you sell, and smog it now, you wouldn't have to re-smog for 2 years and 3 mo.
There is like a 90 day +- thing going on as I recall where if a smog has been performed rescently you're not required to do so, or it gets rounded off...
Either way best thing to check is www.dmv.ca.gov and do some searching... since I can only speak from my own experience which could have been a goof up on their part...

the smog for the transfer title does not count. its meant to protect you from buying broken down cars from sleazy sellers. but like dcrosby said, if that title transfer smog is within 90 days of the regular biannual smog, you would be ok.
