question about rb headers...

Hey fellas I got a couple questions about my RB headers... I recently went to warm up my car the other night and I was just doing my usual preventive maintenance checks when I noticed the header was starting to glow red hot. I let it run a little longer to see if it would go away but no luck. My questions are is it normal for them to glow red hot? Is it a bad thing; will it cause any damage? Is there a risk of fire? Anything i need to be worried about? Here is quick picture of it at night with no flash. Any and all help is greatly appreciated in advance. THANKS!!!

You are running too rich during startup.

I'm not an FC guy but at first guess I'd say make sure your air filter is clean & there are no intake obstructions.
Second guess would be dirty injector(s) not closing fully. But again, FC's are not my thing.

Ok, gotta step in and say, Lean = heat. If it was rich. You'd get black smoke out the tail pipe.
But it's not abnormal for the exhaust to get hot when you are not moving. How hot is the question. Get a temp gauge and find out.
I don't think you have a problem. But only way to know for sure. Is to know what temp it is.
If you have ever seen rotary run with out any exhaust. You could understand why exhaust run hot, and why they have to use such thick tubing on the header.

+1 with Gian. Another cause of glowing exhaust are the bananas in the tailpipe ala Eddie Murphy lol

Think about how the richer circuit works with a thermal reactor, Mel.

Adds fuel to the mix to INcrease reactor temps.

I had a spark plug that wasn't sparking much, fuel was sent out the exhaust port into the header where it ignited inside the hot header. Made a real nice orange glow. The header suffered metal fatigue and has two nice holes in it now. And is brittle.

Which would be...

...wait for it...

...afterburn condition caused by unburnt fuel leaving the combustion chamber.

Just like with a rich mix.
