Price on FD engine rebuild?
I have 2 FD's to choose from to buy. One already has a new engine and set at a very reasonable price. The other is a few grand cheaper but needs an engine rebuild. Im aware of Rotary Performance and their ability to rebuild engines, how much would it cost? Just looking for the best deal possible before they both sell. Thanks. O fyi, im in San Jose area if it makes any difference.

check out the websites of a few famous shops like mazdatrix and tripoint (expensive!); they typically have a menu with price. typical prices are also easily found if you do a quick search on the forum
if i were you, and the one w/ the new engine has good compression and checks out and stuff, i'd go with that instead of getting a rebuild done myself. unless you plan on punching out the engine anyway, in which case then might as well get the fixer upper and get all the porting and goodies done from the get go

rotary resurrection does fd rebuilds for $1500. Add $350 for to/from shipping. If you have help you can pull it with friends and have a GOOD rebuild for under 2 grand. That's what I did and I have 70K miles and counting on my FD. everyone else in the area wanted around 4k for a rebuild, but to be fair thats including removing and reinstalling the engine. it's not THAT hard to do though, just a lot of unhooking stuff and putting everything back together.

i do rebuilds for $1500, but that doesn't mean it's a $1500 job.
r&r engine,
oh yea, broken motor mounts...$500
belts and hoses...money
anything broken...money...
$2500 is VERY optimistic...that's if nothing goes wrong.

Im no longer concidering the FD that needs the rebuild. Theres actually 2 in San Jose that im looking at now. One of them has a "new" not rebuilt engine along with other new main components. It is also the one that needs a paint job nothing more. And the 2nd has no engine work done on it with less than 100k miles on original engine. Ive seen and inspected the 2nd FD and its in great condition, ive yet to get word from the 1st one.
I think it is yours though Audiobot, theres no other FD with a new engine on craigslist. Im in the downtown area.
