Planning trip to LA..Hotel ideas?

I'm looking to stay in either Santa Monica or Beverly hills. I'll be taking my g/f with me and I think she'll want to do a lot of shopping and things of that nature. Anyway what would you recommend? I'm looking for a nice hotel nothing like the holiday inn. so far I've come up with the Crescent in Beverly hills and the total package price is around 1300 for 4 nights and air. I'm looking to spend no more then $1400 for the rooms and air.

Thanks,
Dan

Do our asses look like Travel Agents?

Seriously though, have you tried booking your entire trip on expedia.com? I know they give phat discounts if you book the entire trip, ie. Hotel, airfare, etc.

The W Hotel in Westwood is nice. 10 minute taxi ride to Beverly Hills or Santa Monica. Many more fine Hotels along Ocean Ave. in Santa Monica. Beverly Hills is a budget breaker but have some excellent Hotels!
