Planning trip to LA..Hotel choices?
I'm looking to stay in either Santa Monica or Beverly hills. I'll be taking my g/f with me and I think she'll want to do a lot of shopping and things of that nature. Anyway what would you recommend? I'm looking for a nice hotel nothing like the holiday inn. so far I've come up with the Crescent in Beverly hills and the total package price is around 1300 for 4 nights and air. I'm looking to spend no more then $1400 for the rooms and air.
Thanks,
Dan

or hotwire.com
1300 for 4 nights and air for LA is pretty expensive. unless that's pocket change for you i'd stay at some nice but not ritzy places, rent a car and drive everywhere. pasadena is nice, as are the suburbs near there and it's about 30~45 minutes to everywhere

Livin it up at the hotel California, such a lovely place
It's not pocket change for me, but I'd like to stay at a decent place... I don't know if I can even rent a car, I'm 22 I thought you had to be like 25 to rent a car. 1300 is a decent chunk of change but I'd like to stay close to the city center. Anyone know if Jennifer Aniston has an opening at her house

Rent a car. Getting around will SUCK if you don't have one. Southern California is not a pedestrian friendly zone...

you can rent a car if you're under 25, it's just more expensive
if you don't rent a car you can forget about coming to la. an average bus ride will take about 2 hours if you really want to go to fun places. and like previously said, there is no city center in la, everything is spreaaaaaaaaaaaaaad out. just hotwire it. i rent cars using hotwire when i travel and it's so cheap, like 50 bucks for a whole weekend

Westin Bonaventure is very nice, if you do search for 4 star on hotwire for $60, you'll get a room at westin bonaventure. (at least it did for me.) It's in LA downtown.
There's also W Hotel in Westwood. - $200 a night
Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills. - $250-300 a night
Holiday Inn on Sunset Strip(where all the clubs are.) - no clue
Standard Hotel in downtown and sunset. - no clue
Those are some choices that comes to mind for nice hotels.
Edit: Or if you know anyone at UCLA, UCLA Guest House is also very nice. Pretty darn good prices for suites w/ kitchenette and everything.

haha, so is that like taking one of those star tours except in a crazy taxi kind of way?
I didn't mean city center, it makes me sound like more of a dumbass then I am. Thanks for the advise. I guess I'll be renting a car then. Dont' you have to pay for parking like everywhere?

Try the Bel Air Holiday Inn. You're 5 minutes from Beverly Hills, 15 minutes from the beach in Santa Monica, walking distance to OJ's old pad, and you won't get lost getting there from LAX. Don't get a room on the freeway side, it's loud. If your GF a howler, ignore the part about the noise, you won't hear a thing. It was $100 a night the last time I stayed there.

You're a liar and you know it. Maybe at 3-4 am..... I think you forgot about the 405 traffic he'll have to deal with to get anywhere if he chooses to stay at that hotel.
From my apt in Santa Monica to UCLA, 7 miles away, took me 45 min each way on highway 10 and 405.
