I use Rick @ Rotary Performance for all my cars... even the German ones. Never had any issues with him or the work done on the cars.

Just a little thumbs up for a suspension shop.

I recently went to Motosport Techniques in Hayward for ride heights and alignment.

First of all, people there are super nice and friendly,

Services weren't pricey - alignment $90, ride height $90 iirc

Jack, the alignment specialist is so quick and he's got a lot of experience with many different sports cars including RX7's and miatas.

For some reason, after the services, my front passenger side slowly sunk down throughout the week, which led it to cause a fender to tire rubbing issue plus a slight lean towards the right.

I took my car back, they folded back the damaged fender, did height adj., and alignment for free of charge.

When it comes to alignment, i get really **** about every little aspect of it, I kept asking for slight changes, and Jack's done it a few times with no problems. He kept saying "no worries, gotta get it done right, let me know if you want me to change anything"

The only thing I wanted to do but they just dont do is corner balancing.

They said Jack doesn't believe in it...

Anyways, my car runs a lot more stable now, n i'm about to find out how it'll do at the track next week.

Every shop I have called thus far says they have discontinued rebuilds. This include Mr. Mazda and Rotorsport. Any shops I may have overlooked, or anyone in the area that does rebuilds personally? Trying to avoid shipping my engine at all costs.
Thanks

If you are not in a hurry then I would suggest to go with karack for a rebuild, fare prices and a honest dude.

This thread is a little long so I skimmed through it. I dont know if anyone mentioned Rotorsport in Santa Clara. I picked up my car one day and there were 9 fd's in the parking lot. Thats always a good sign.

Just got my FC back from Ben (aka Karack) after rebuild and she's running great. Drove from Veags to San Diego and back to Sacramento and after 1000 miles and all broke in I let her out today and it's a beautiful thing. He gave me an honest price and I feel the exrtra trip was well worth it. Who cant use an excuse to get to Vegas anyway. If you are considering a rebuild in California I recommend just making the decision easy on yourself and contact Karack.

Hey Ginko,

How long did the build take? I'm saving for a rebuild for my newly purchased Turbo II. I live in Vallejo, Ca so my drive would be similiar to yours if so I bet he is worth it. If your ever at any meets in Sac or in the bay let me know. I would like to see check out your car. Thanks!

When ben builds an engine it can take a month to two months depending on what you want and if there is any trouble with getting it to fire

Took a few months but I was planned on that. Would have been shorter but he was in the area so I sent my car back with him and got in line. Now that I have her back the time and extra drive were well worth it.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm working on my suspension first while saving money for my rebuild. I'm leaning towards ben or Lucky 7 for my motor rebuild. There is also this guy that posts on craigslist but he didn't leave an information about himself. I wonder if he is one of the old school mostly mazda guys that still does motor work. I wish reputable builders weren't so far away from the bay. I guess there is always SR motorsports but they are all mainstream and pricey now.

pulling and installing the engines aren't too difficult if you take your time and be patient and document everything in it's place. it would be easier if i had more engines shipped to and from customers to save some time in driving. i also understand that it's difficult to rely on a 20+ year old car when changing out a $1500 engine that you don't want anything to go wrong.

You could short block your motor on a Saturday and save yourself a few thousand dollars.
