A new member looking for some advice =)
Hey everyone, My name is Alex i have been a member here for about two years but other than reading various posts i was never too active. But i now own a 1994 FD and i look forward to being more involved on the boards.
With that being said, my friend owns a 96 BMW M3 and we were both talking about the idea of driving at a track. Well i have been seeing all these track dates, most recently, the one for the Laguna Seca drive today. I was just wondering, what are the requirements to be allowed to drive on a track? If there are any requirements anything you guys can tell me would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Track Days
Check out both the NASA and SCCA websites. Before you get out on a track alone you'll need to ride with an instructor and get signed off after you demonstrate car control and a knowledge of track operations (i.e. safety, corner workers, flags, passing rules). A lot of track days require that you have previous track experience before you can sign up. The Thuinderhill park (Willows) website has a good write up on their SCCA street car performance driving events, I'm sure there might be something like this in So Cal. Your car will need to pass a safety inspection & you'll need a helmet.
Check out this site for a typical track event with requirements etc.

If your car is stock be careful about running at these events as unless you have an R1 (R2) overheating can be an issue with the stock radiator and only 1 oil cooler. There's also a lot of other things to make sure are in good shape on your car, do a search here & you'll find them.
I would strongly recommend autocrossing for a season or two to learn how to drive your car before tracking it, there's a lot of experts who will help you at these events.
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses and for letting me know about looking into an extra oil cooler and radiator issue. A lot of information i appreciate it. Going to go check out those websites.
