Need to pass smog (California) HELP
I live in Orlando Florida, but as of next week I will no longer have internet acces because we will be moving to California in early march. When we get there I need to be able to pass smog with my FD, unfortunalty I am sure I will NOT pass, because my air pump is not working and im running rich ( car does not smoke at all however) and I may also have 2 bad catalytic converters. Maintanence wise however, the car is in TOP shape. I can not afford to fix any of these things right now nor do I have the time for it. Does anyone know if I can get my air pump fixed for cheap, or if anyone knows a special smog shop, PM me with a phone number and the info, because my little brother will also be having the same problem as his 1991 MR2 turbo will not pass smog either. any "serious" help would be appriciated.

I am very aware of what you are saying. However the problem is we will not have a house when we get there, Therefore I will not be able to do any work on my car for a little while. I suppose I could get the work done somewhere for cheap, anyone know any shops?

California smog law, anything aftermarket is illegal. Catback exhaust is ok but must be under 95db, and have cats in tact. No intakes (unless C.A.R.B approved with #), front mounts, BOV, catless pipes, larger throttle bodies....etc. So city to city there is no difference. Basically make your car as stock as possible, and buy some new cats. Any exhaust shop in the area has the ability to install those for you. Shouldnt be a problem. California sucks for car enthusiasts , weathers awesome though

Talkin from your ***. There are some really nice parts of Elk Grove. My friends old house off of Waterman was in a nice neighborhood and they left their cars unlocked all the time and the garage open all day. Nothing was stolen or ne thing.

Elk Grove isn't bad other than the cops....
There are a few parts that are bad, but for the most part it's a good city.
Like everyone else said, if you have any kind of modifications that do not have CARB #'s/stickers then remove them and put the stock parts back on.
If you get caught with enough parts, they can impound your car and fine you for every illegal part they find on your car.
Just happened to a guy I know...$1500 storage fee + $2500 illegal parts fines.
Anything more than 3 mph over the speed limit will get you a ticket.....
When you go to get it smogged, every smog part that your car had from the factory MUST be on the car and working. If you removed the charcoal canister, EGR, etc... you automatically fail the smog test but still have to pay for the smog test.
Also, when you get smogged you now have to have a charcoal canister test.
It is mandatory and it must be working. But it is not part of the smog test, meaning you have to pay another $20 to have that test done.
If you have any kind of air/fuel controller, boost controller, piggy back computer of anykind, its a ticket and will also make you fail smog. Mainly just the piggy backs that control air/fuel though, I havent heard of a boost controller making someone fail smog...yet.
There's ALOT of more info than that though...
Just ask DINO, he'll know all the rest.
Welcome to Sacramento/Elk Grove haha

talking out of my ***? you're comparing one neighborhood to a whole city, where's your logic in that?
Maybe I was a little harsh in calling it "the ghetto", but according to statistics on the web they score a 89, from the national average of 100 for crime rate.
