Nasa at Buttonwillow. Race recap
Nasa at Buttonwillow. Race recap
I was a little busy running back, forth and round and round. Being that my car was stored at 7s Only since Mid-Ohio. I was still doing prep on the run for Saturday. I all most missed the race. As Greg held me after the meeting to “talk”.
Then I ran to get fuel as they call us to the grid. I still had to get the car fueled, finish bleeding the brakes and put on one more wheel to be ready. I was so out of it, just trying to get to grid. My first few laps I was miss shifting all most every shift. But I did work my way intoP3. I was running P3 till I got sideways in sunset and let a few cars by. I think there was something on the track. Because 05 (kitty) went off the very next turn (T1) and gave me back P4. With the use of traffic was able to finish P4. Worst part was with some epic racing going on. I forgot my Cam.
Sunday was a little better. Got a killer start as the front row checked up. Had P1 for one teeny tiny moment... It was sort lived as we went 3 wide in T1. Not sure if I got bumped or just because I was in the marbles. But I was full lock sideways as the Rx8 push Kidd, in the 21 car, out into my nose and helped me out. I got around the Rx8 in cotton corners.
Had a nice comfy lead as he held up Sony and the rest of the gang. They were just coming out of the esses as I was braking for sunset. Then it happened. I found my sunglasses that I forgot about. Yep right under my clutch pedal... couldn't find a gear. So shoved it into something.. oh no..5th to 2nd gear. The car did not like that at all. The rear axle bounced as I fought to find another gear.
The Rx8 passes me down at start/finish. I get him back at cotton corners again. But this time he lets Sony and the 05 (not sure who was driving) by. After a few laps Sony runs me down and pulls off a pass in Phil Hill. That sets me up for the 05 to get past. We ran like that till the 05 gets sideways in the button hook and I pass him. On to Sony. I could gain on him and at one point was looking good. Then he just starts pulling away. White flags out. Last lap. In T1 Sony car is almost stopped. I thought he broke. Then he started slowly coming across the track. So I held up. Thought he was letting me go by... Nope! He see me and takes off. We are catching up to slower traffic in the last turn. I set it up best I could. Pulled up next to his rear wheel. But that was it. Finished P4
That should keep me well in to P3 for the season. As long as I finish the last two races.

Here's the footage from Sonny's car. seemed you were holding him off for a good while then somehow passed you with ease and maintained a good spacing from the looks of the rear view mirror. now that you mention misshifting it makes more sense. I haven't been on THQ in a while so i haven't read any other perspectives.
^^i hope that worked...

@RoTorYRooKiE. If he could have posted the whole race. I was up on is tail most the time. It was the last few laps he did pull away. My tires were getting a little greasy. So I had to back off a little. That and his "things are farther then they apear" rear veiw mirror. Does not show how close I was. Like at the finish line. My front tire was just past his rear tire. But in the video, looks like I'm not even close.
no no, all props to you bro. i guess it didn't come across that way. even in the vid he said he barely got away with P3. I watch all his vids being he's from my crew and you're ALWAYS in the mix. so watching him i get to watch your driving. i think it's cool since this PTE class ties my two worlds together, rotary and miata.
I just never post in your threads cuz i never have anything constructive to say.

I do the same, so understand. It's funny because I met someone in the pits from up north (can't remember his name because I was running to get everything done and had so much on my mind) from this forum. And he said he followed my racing post here.

<-- I've now reached the maximum I can contribute to your thread. I always enjoy in-car videos. But now I don't want to put up my HPDE 1 vids cause they are in super-slow motion compared to yours.
Dude you should post your video. If not here. Start your own thread. But would love to see them.

I was running the black NA fc in HPDE 1 because it was my first time running CW. And because my fc and I need to be "allowed" to pass in the straights.
I was fuelling for my friends that ran the Enduro on Saturday/Sunday so I just did a track day while I was there. I can show everyone what your videos would look like in super slow motion.

Looks like a lazy sunday drive compared to the race group vids but here goes. Still need to set up the external mic so it's not just wind noise. FYI there's a pro7 car at the end of the first 3rd session video that practically blows my doors off.

Although listening to his car helped me figure out what we were doing differently.
