Moving to LA ... need exhaust noise help (no cat) ...
Hey everyone ...
So I'm moving to LA in a couple of months and the FD will be shipped out there and quickly (finally) made road-going again. I'm excited! But I have a little problem that I would appreciate some input on.
Right now, my exhaust set up is a 3" stainless downpipe and midpipe with a Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust. It's been that way for years, which isn't a problem in NC. The motor is also quite ported, so, in short, it's LOUD. It'll definitely get me pulled over and ticketed in California.
Since I do have great connections in the LA area, I DO NOT need to worry about passing smog. But I do need to cut back on the noise, so I've decided to weld in a muffler or resonator in the middle of my midpipe. Hell, I'd throw a thin resonator in the downpipe if it'll fit ... or on the cat-back piping. And everything is going to be wrapped in thermal tape so a can-style muffler will pass a roadside visual as a Random cat.
So I need suggestions from people who have already done this. What mufflers do you guys recommend sticking in the midpipe? Something small enough, very baffling, straight-through, and the deeper tone the better. And if it's inexpensive then that's even better.
Thanks in advance!
