Miata into NA S5 trans swap help

Hi,

I have a 1.8 Miata trans that I would like to have to guts transferred into an NA S5 case. (I have multiple S5 donor trans'). This is for a 24 Hrs of Lemons car and I'm trying to get better gear ratios. That 2nd to 3rd gap is huge. My issue is that I have 2 cars to prep and 1 to build from scratch. I don't have time to dick around with it anymore plus it's pissed me off. I started disassembling 1 of the NA trans' and got stuck on that stupid roll pin holding the block onto the end of the shift rod. I've completely buggered that all up using other people's suggestions and I've just given up. I've spent way too much time on it to the detriment of these other cars. There's a guy in Nor Cal that will do the swap for $350 and I'm looking for someone somewhat close to OC that will do the swap for a similar price.

Thanks in advance

check mazdatrix as i know they have done it before, but figuring the input shaft from the miata has to be modified i doubt you will get it done for $350.

I wasn't getting much response to my request here so I did ask mazdatrix. They want $600 labor plus $90 for the input shaft machining plus parts. My guess is that it will end up a $1000 job there. That includes steam cleaning of the unit which besides the money is an issue. I guess I could cover it in oil and roll it around in the side yard for a while to dirty it back up but a nice clean box will set off all kinds of warning bells and lights with the Lemons inspection judges. Spending $1000 on a gearbox kind of goes against the Lemons ethos so if I don't find someone else more reasonable, I'll just wait until I get the time to pull the boxes apart myself or ship it up north.
