So I go to get the FD smogged today. My ride has few mods, Apexi PFC, P Farrell Super cars exhaust (cat back), dp, HKS Twin Spark. Well the damn thing past-well at least the emmissions part-with flying colors. All numbers were below average. We get to the check engine light and because the thing's not working (I think that a result of the PFC), I failed the test!!! My question is do they just check to see if it's working or do they read codes coming off of the ECU? It's looking like I'll have to replace the PFC with the factory bt before I do so, i'd like to make sure. Thanks for your help.

im almost positive they dont get codes. my old auto teacher(smogger) said thats the first thing he does cus it doesnt matter what it is, its an automatic failure.

just pull the bulb. j/k

go to kragen, rent a OB1 tester (i think is what FD's are) and scan it, it will pop the codes, then you can clear them if you know they are errors. then no more light!!

 

just take out the bulb and redo... they don't scan obd0 and 1 cars to begin with.

 

what about scanning a second gen ? OBD 1 > ?? ?

 

they check if the bulb works, they turn the key and it should light up. then when you start the car it should turn off.

 

good god, heres how you do it and its only for your car ok? strap a big peice of C4 to the undercarrage of the car and stand back..then after it explodes it should clear the codes..

DoLuck, I told them the bulb was burnt out. He basically acted like he didn't hear me! The guy was an *******!
