How To pass Ca Smog in Fd?
Hot is the key. Let it idle for like 30 min before you smog it. I pulled up and left my car running as I talked to the guys at the shop.
I just passed with great numbers on a stock gslse. It was even missing at low rpms. I really didnt think it was gonna pass.

One of the issues with smogging an FD in CA is CA reduced the smog limits from the original smog limits the FD had to meet in 93-95. So in CA we are fighting an uphill battle with our cars. But there are a couple of other tricks you can use to improve the odds of passing. I used these tricks myself when I failed Smog last year.
1. As they said the key is to get the Cat really hot so it’s working effectively.
2. Install brand new spark plugs.
3. Change the oil and filter.
4. Run the car until you’re almost out of gas then add a couple of gallons of 87 octane gas to the gas tank. Then drive the car VERY conservatively for 30 to 45 minutes to burn out the residual 91 octane gas in the fuel system and to the Cat heated up. Then get it Smogged immediately. When you leave the smog station go DIRECTLY to the nearest gas station and fill up with 91 octane gas again.

the key is having a working smog pump and a good catalytic converter along with all the regular tune up items being relatively new.

If you have a Power FC, make sure your map and Inj Corr settings are properly.
I did have an issue with smog after installing my PFC, but that's because there's a stupid setting called O2 feedback injector corr setting and I couldn't figure out what that meant originally. Basically that designates which cells Inj Map are allowed to have air fuel correction while at cruise(like during smog test). Any value on your Inj Map below that feedback setting is allowed to be corrected during O2 closed loop feedback. On my car, the tuner had done a base recalc which sets the Inj Map cells to 1.00 and the setting for the O2 feedback was 0.699, so the car wasn't doing O2 feedback anywhere. It was a pretty easy fix to make after knowing that.
Make sure you're running a working smog pump, good cat, fresh plugs, and a recent oil change doesn't hurt either. Mine passes no problem with a ported motor and other mods.

I have a working smog pump and most of an exhaust, down pipe for stock twins and cat. I planned on selling them but would trade them for a few parts I need for my single swap, or sell them to you for cheap if you are close enough to pick them up!
