HKS F-CON V Pro FD Harness+Installation+Tuning Service
In anticipation of owning another FD I purchased an HKS FD-specific harness for the F-CON V Pro standalone engine management system, but it's looking like my FD purchase will have to wait. I'm seeing if anyone in Socal would be interested in a one-time offer to switch over to the V-Pro EMS. Normally, only HKS Authorized Pro dealers are able to tune this system, but I can offer tuning services on it, as well as installation (and a harness). I've installed this system in numerous SR20, and 2JZ powered vehicles but have yet to do so in FD (although I have tuned Power-FC equipped FDs). I'll throw in the following comments:
1. The benefit of the V-Pro standalone over the Power FC is that it offers higher resolution maps and many more fuel/ignition trims and more flexibility in datalogging as well as voltage output/input maps. I'm convinced it can be tuned for better drivability, power and reliability than a Power FC.
2. The benefits over a Power FC would really only be useful for a single turbo-equipped FD. IMO the Power FC is ideal for a stock twins car, so please only a single FD.
The only thing you would need to do is to purchase a used V-Pro ECU, either version 3.1 or 3.2 (characterized by their gold box and a dot-shaped sticker either blue or red, respectively). These can be found relatively cheap on CL, or 350Z/G35 forums etc (they seem to pop up every couple weeks). Optional items would be the HKS MAP and IAT sensors, and an HKS Navigator Pro. If you decide to purchase a used Navigator, I can mount it right on the steering column and set it up to display AFR, Boost, Water Temperature etc in any number of formats on a single LCD screen.
My cost for doing this would be $350 for tuning (tune from complete scratch)+ $125 for installation (would install the box under the passenger seat+run sensor harnesses through the driver's side fender/firewall)+$175 for the harness (the harness costs $325 new) so if you can find a V-Pro box at a good price this could run about the same as or cheaper than a Power FC +tune. Tuning can be either done on a dyno (your expense) or on the street (you drive), although I would have to tune for slightly less power with a street tune. Total time for install+complete tune would be about a day.
