Need to find someone who specializes in emissions and smog on 1st gen,
in So. Calif. area.
My mech. hasn't been able to figure it out & has had my car for 6 weeks.
Does anyone know someone they can swear by, and not at?

 

If your mechanic doesn't have a copy of the FSM, the link is in my sig line. It would help if you, or your mechanic, posted the problems with meeting emissions. E-test results would help along with year as there are variations in carbs and exhaust systems.

We have some excellent guys on the forum who've done troubleshooting on emissions for nearly 30 years. rx7doc is the 1st one who comes to mind and he just recently moved from CA.

I had a '79 in CA that wouldn't pass either. I gave up, bought a universal cat, had it welded in place of the thermal reactor and ran alcohol fuel. Raced it down to emissions... passed with like a 2 CO rating... the cat won't last long though so go straight from muffler place to emissions testing.

If you have a '79... more than likely that thermal reactor has had it.
