Got a state referee ticket tonight, and thats just the begining...

My buddy called me from a bar for a ride home because he was **** faced. So I went to go get him and on the way back I passed a cop driving under the speed limit and he instantly darted out and flashed the lights, pulling me over. All I can say is I have never in my life been treated this horribly by any law inforcement. Its like I f*cked his sister or killed his mother.

Long story short I have to go see a state referee but I am confused and have a few questions.

1. The officer said it was for my intake, (CVC 27156 B7 Modified emissions) my question is does everything else need to be put back to stock(including ride height)? My guess would be yes but I wanted to be sure.

2. He mentioned something about a sticker or emblem needing to be on the part itself saying its legal. I have documentation for my intake and exhaust being emmisions legal, can I bring this to the referee and keep those on?

3. The bottom of the ticket says stopped for VC 27150 (A) but I have no idea what that is. It doesnt indicate if it is correctable or not.

4. How much is this going to set me back?

FYI i still have my airpump with all the correct fittings going to the intake.

So to top it all off im driving home after I dropped off my friend and a racoon ran out into the road. I tried to dodge but I clipped the little bastard and it ripped the right side of my chin spoiler off.

Just one of those nights. Thanks for any input guys.

Oh yeah he also said i had modified camshafts LOL

(commencing with Section 27200), and no muffler or exhaust system shall
be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.
(c) The provisions of subdivision (b) shall not be applicable to

Leave the stuff on show the reff your receipts and as long as the paper work show carb legal eo numbers your fine. Ride height has nothing to do with smog emissions so there not going to mess with you there. Ride height is just a fix a ticket and that comes out to 10 bucks. I have these many times. good thing for adjustable coil over's hahaha. But don't trip if you got the proof to back you up.

Damn Level7,

Sorry to hear about your mishap especially when you were trying to do a good thing by picking up your drunk friend. If you have docs stating that they are legal, hopefully the refs would take it in consideration. If not, I hope there is an option for you just to pay the fine.

let me guess............... FUMANCHU pulled you over eyy... he's out for a vengance since he did not get his automatic FD to its full Initial D drift potential. so now he's unleashing his frustration to other Mazda RX-7 owners. he also might site you for being grammatically incorrect here on the forum and could result in a heavy forum fine.

I was hoping for a better response from you but hey, at least I got a chuckle out of it, thanks Fu.

Honestly I hope not because it would be in some major pain and would have suffered greatly. I would imagine it died instantly from the force of the impact. Danm near ripped the whole lip off the car.

Thanks for the responses you guys, I have another question. On the back of my ticket there is a sticker and it says the vehicle must be removed from the road and not driven until in complience. The officer never mentioned anything about this to me, can anybody verify this for me?

You want a straight-forward response?

Here you go. The burden of proof is on you. The CARB sticker needs to be on the intake for him to not right you a ticket. If it is truly legal, then put the sticker on and take it to the referee.

With the exhaust ticket, I am not exactly sure but I think the referee's can measure it's decibel output and say if it's legal or not. Most aftermarket systems are over the limit though.

If they are going to measure decibels then there is no way I will pass. Even before I got the midpipe the Greddy PE was pretty deep. Swapping out the exhaust wont be a big deal, but I am concerned about not being able to drive the car until I see the ref. Do you know if this is true or am I misunderstanding something? Thanks Fu

Not sure with all of it. That's more of a CHP's knowledge area than a Deputy's.

Don't you find youself in conundrums as an ex-ricer yourself... (Don't make me look for that civic picture)!

So why don't you let the CHP do the ticket writing, and you just hold "Andy's" hand while out on patroll in Mayberry !

I have come to terms with my ex-ricerism. I was young and dumb back then just like most of these guys in the West Section.

Don't make me whip out my picture of your car upside down in a ditch.

Unless you have the actual carb stickers for the items you were ticketed for, I would just pay the fine and move on.

You are going to be spending alot of time putting EVERYTHING back to stock in order to pass with the ref. One little hose unattached and you will fail.

Is paying the fine always an option on these types of tickets? I think it'd be a pain in the *** to have to switch parts out all the time if you keep getting stopped, and would rather just pay the punishment fee.

When you say everything, do you mean suspension as well? I have had mixed answers to this, can anybody confirm? As you can see in my sig, my car is lightly modded so it wont be difficult to return emissions parts to stock. Im trying to stay away from paying a huge fine.

If it is easy, and you have all the parts handy, go for it. As for the suspension, did the officer cite you for the car being too low? If so you will have to bring it up to a legal ride height to get the ticket signed off.

Thanks for the reply Jesuscookies. No, fortunatly I wasnt hit for suspension on the ticket. My concern is the ref telling me to take a hike because of it though. From what I hear they only check emmisions stuff but I want to be sure because its the only part I do not have the stock version of.

You do not have to worry about the ref bothering you, about your suspension. The ref's only concern will be emissions and to make sure every part on your car is emissions legal.

Just put the carb stickers on your legal parts and make sure everything that isn't legal is changed out. Make sure the catalytic converters are legal and take it down. You cannot move the location of the factory catalytic converters.

The ref is only there to check the legality of the drivetrain.. he doesn't care if you have tinted windows, air ride suspension, a naked lady airbrushed on the hood, etc..
