Going to be in San Francisco for a week
Hey guys, I'll be out in San Francisco next week for a training class and i was wondering what else i can do in the evenings? My class is during the normal work day like 8:30-4:30pm. I'm not sure if I am going to be renting a car or not, it all depends where my class and my hotel are located as I have yet to find out but i'll try to make the most of it because i have never been to CA. So any suggestions?

sfgate.com click on entertainment on the left side.
Lists everything happening from bands/bars/restaurants/activities etc.
If you can go to the North Beach street fair next weekend you should see plenty of pretty babies..... weather dependant.
400+bars/nightclubs/restaurants you can find plenty to do.

If you ever find yourself on Castro street, there is probably a good reason and you know it's because you happen to like the place.
Those who are the most vocally critical are usually the ones most interested but afraid to admit it to themselves or others and feel the need to compensate.
From what I understand, buttplugs are to keep **** in, not out. Perhaps wackyracer could elaborate on this as he is from the ***-packing capital, um, er I mean ****-capital which could only be that desolate and dysfunctional place known as SoCal
Enough of that nonsense...
My suggestions for things to do at night for out of towners:
Each district has tons of clubs/bars/nudies/eateries etc. within walking ditance of each other. There are many others, but these are the most popular.
North Beach (Columbus @ Broadway)
Union district (Fillmore @ Lombard)
The Mission (16th @ Valencia)
Soma i.e. South of Market (5th @ Howard area)
Tenderloin (Polk @ Geary)
Soma also has a huge after-work crowd as it is adjacent to the Financial district/downtown.
Plenty of site-seeing things to do during the day. More than you could see in a week at least.

I just spoke to a friend who is also visiting SF from out of town, and I came up with a couple food recommendations that may or may not suit your tastes. I have taken visitors to these restaurants in the recent past, and they have always seemed to have a great time. I figured I might as well post them up here and in the other SF thread as well.
If you want to check out a pretty fun restaurant in the City, I would recommend a place in the Mission district called Foreign Cinema. The atmosphere is pretty cool, and they show classic movies on the side of a building out in the courtyard seating area. It is a great place to enjoy the warm weather SF has been having lately, and the connected bar attracts some pretty people if you stick around after dinner hours.

If you want to be more adventurous and you get a kick out of seeing gay ****, you may want to check out a place called AsiaSF. Most of the "waitresses" are transvestites, and one of the ones that served my party the last time we went there could actually pass for a real chick. It seems to be better suited for big parties though, so it may not work too well for a solo trip. But it is a fun place to go if you've never seen a real he-she before, and it really does capture all of "teh gheyness" SF has to offer. A lot of my friends (especially the ones who grew up outside of Cali), including me to a certain extent, are pretty homophobic, and they all still had a good time there. Maybe round up a few of the other guys/chicks from the training class and drag them with you.

If you like vietnamese food, I would highly recommend a place called The Slanted Door at the historic Ferry Building. Not only is the food excellent, but the surrounding area offers an awesome perspective of the SF Bay. The Embarcadero strip that the buliding resides on is an awesome place to go for a walk along the waterfront.

RX-Heven named pretty much all the trendy nightlife areas.
If you are traveling solo and want to go somewhere where you could almost definitely meet some pretty girls and could easily have a great time even without the rest of the boys with you, I would recommend the Marina/Union area. There are bars all along Fillmore between Lombard and Union swarming with hot bitches on weekend nights. While there are always snobby hoes in crowds of pretty people, I've found that there are always a good amount of friendly girls at most of the bars in the area too. My favorites in that area are City Tavern and Matrix, both of which are on Fillmore between Lombard and Filbert I believe. The bars in the Mission/Valencia area also have plenty of friendly people, but the caliper of hotness of the girls there hasn't been so great the few times I've been out there.
If you could round up a few of your fellow trainees, the Broadway strip near North Beach is a fun place to visit. There are plenty of clubs and bars in the area, as well as a host of Strip Clubs.
My friends party in the South of Market a lot, but most of the events are hosted by promoters they know, and it could be a confusing/dangerous area if you want to just wander around looking for a cool place to drop in. One block that comes to mind though is 11th st. (near Folsom or Howard, if I remember correctly), where there are a number of quality clubs on each side of the street, including Slims, DNA Lounge, Loft 11, and a few others I can't think of right now.
Have a great time, and be safe. I'd recommend taking public transportation during the day and cabs at night, if you're staying IN the City. It is a lot easier that way, since parking is a bitch and you could just expense your Cab rides after getting hammered at the bars.
Wow, I could have just written a damn book right there!

I got here a couple days ago, i'm staying at the Hotel Union Square, on Powell, just off of market street. I got loaded in a cool Irish pub just accross the street last night. Its so different here, its hard to soak it all in.
Also, on my way home today, i saw a Red FD with exhaust and stock spoiler driving down market st, and then i saw him again on Ellis. Was that anyone on here?

Ask a cab driver to drop you off at Hunters Point. Bring lots of greens with you, since you'll be able to find a lot of action in this area. Come strap too if you like, and no, not a strap-on. Save the strap-on for the Castro district.
