Thumbs up fully automated exhaust silencer

so th fd is too loud, right...
and i'm thinking of all sorts of ways to quiet it down without robbing power.

it's impossible to find a 3 1/2" muffler or pre-silencer that does a good job of knocking the noise down, but still fits in the tight fd chassis, so scratch that idea.

smaller exhaust is out of the question. i likes me powa

silencers are such a pain in the ***... i don't want to have to get out of the car and unbolt the thing every time i wanna step on the gas.

cutouts are the ****, but no room, and i'm not gonna redo the entire exhaust just to use one.

so what do we got???

a cheap silencer, some brake line, vacuum line, and a pre-spool thingamajiggy from that set of cosmo twins i couldn't sell in the moving sale.

so a little welding, little tweaking, couple holes, a line from the intake manifold to the back of the car and here's what we got:

a fully-automated silencer that opens up when you're under boost!!

goddamn, i need to start sleeping!

i just did some running around town and it works perfectly

only flaw is it doesn't return exactly square to the tip, so i'll get some junk to make alignment brackets tomorrow--that way it'll seal up nice and tight every time it closes.

next pj: 3-rotor side exhaust port/side/peripheral aux intake renesis motor.

because the 3 rotor e-shaft kit is a few $k cheaper.

fuzzball--i looked into those last year, but as i understand, it opens via backpressure....so there's always x amount of backpressure robbing power. mine opens with a manifold reference and doesn't rob anything.

No need for a custom E shaft, just put 2 13b's together with a custom housing in the center like grannys did. After seeing your garage, I think you could do it.

My car may never be as powerfull as yours, but your exhaust will never be as quiet as mine.

I do admire your McGyver abilities...

would this be easier though? http://phase2motorsports.stores.yaho...p3excovan.html
While not this product isn't all that cheap for what it is...you can certainly fab something really similar.

Just have settings on the cable so you know how far to pull the valve.

Nice work MacGuyver, I mean Dave. Do you get any annoying vibration noise from where the silencer and exhaust meet when the plug is in there?

nope. there's some pretension holding the silencer to the tip.

and we already covered cutouts. i don't want any extra levers or switches in the car.
