it cant be a whole lot lighter, the fd hood is pretty light. its cool i guess if you just want the cf look

whaha!! i got mine for $150 one big vent like evo style , it jus had a cracked off corner smaller then a nickle.. n basically all cf needs hood pins, so light it will fly off on freeway even wit good hood pin. the guy didnt kno wat he had, didnt even own a 7

 

Hood pins do serve a purpose as you have stated but keep in mind that a well manufactured hood with reinforced hood latch( steel rivets with back plate) does not require you to install hood pins especial if the hood is vented.

Unless you are looking for the C/F look of this OEM hood, i see no benefit given that the OEM hood is already made of light weight aluminum.
