What does DMV do to you when you fail your smog test?
I heard sumthing about car inspection and smogging required annually?

Is that true?

 

only if you get flagged as a gross polluter, the tech would likely tell you if you were flagged for that though.

so,.................you're FUCKED every year for registration!

 

you can allways bribe the smog guy, just find some really shady shop that does smog..............then be like hey, ill give u $200 if u pass me or however much u want to give the guy, they ussally do it for $200. i never done it, but i heard that ppl has done that before and it worked. give it a shot.

My SE failed smog about 4x back in 04. Turned out to be a bad o2 sensor. I was tagged a GP (gross polluter). Just means that you go to a "test only" smog center every 2 yr.s. No big deal. Passed like new this time around. Did you do all the emissions tests in the manual? Good Luck.....

it is not a permission slip to modify your car though, all state emissions still apply to your car so if you get pulled over you can still have your car impounded or ticketed for modified emissions.

i got my car smagged yesterday, i passed below average emissions. the guy who smogged my car was amazed first, at the miles, then at the fact my rotary passed below what average cars put out.

he said he saved the print out and is going to show his other smog buddy. weird.....

 

nope i've never had to smog my rx7's in cali, there are loopholes

 

if you fail really badly they'll mark your car as a gross polluter and it's like a scar. It also contributes to statistics of alot of rx7s getting sent to test only. That's why you pay a little extra for the pre test so you wont get labled a gross polluter if you fail. some places offer free retests until you pass also.

 

Can you explain the differences between "pre-test" and "test only"?

How do you tell regarding a place that will do pre-test?

I'm moving to BA from AZ with DP, catback, M2 IC and airbox and PFC. Where would I go first just to make sure I'm not scarred for life?

a pre test can be done by any smog shop , it will tell you if it will pass or fail without that info going to the DMW

 

From what I understand all smog test results are sent to the DMV electronically now. You can do the pretest at most or any smog stations (regular smog station or TEST ONLY). If you get TEST ONLY smog that means you have to go to a specified test only station meaning that that smog station can only test your car and cannot perform maintenance or repairs. So yea if you do a pretest DMV does not see your results. If you pass the pretest they'll charge you normally like half the amount of the pretest price and retest it right after. That's the gist of it, hope I didnt miss anything.
