Firstly, you can check the classifieds on this forum, as there are always rebuilt/ported motors for sale. But expect to pay around $2k for one already rebuit and ready to go.

Secondly, you could source a J-Spec s5 TII motor for around $1200 shipped and either drop it in and cross your fingers, or while it's sitting at your feet in 'bare-block' form you could attempt a rebuild... The resources to do a rebuild project are widely available on this forum.

Thirdly, why would you go through the somewhat complicated hassle of doing a s5 13BT into an s4 TII, when it's very debatable whether or not you'd be upgrading... The sturdiness of the s4 13BT make it almost more desirable than the higher-compression (and I believe somewhat weakened iron-strength) s5 TII motor.

My opinion is that you stick with the s4 13BT motor in the s4. Since you're already proposing a challenging swap, why don't you undertake a comparable and probably easier goal in removing the existing motor from your (soon to be) s4 TII and rebuild it yourself...

OR, best idea yet: Find a good condition/running s5 TII and save yourself a headache!

i know someone in that area that does rebuilds...

i doubt you will find anyone around here who stocks prebuilt and ported turbo motors and i'm about a month deep in work but if you're not in a hurry then i can schedule you in for whatever engine you want built.

erik has some good alternative suggestions too.

Weakend iron strength? They're pretty much identical, however the S5 being preferable being that it has the extra rib in the dowel area around the oil pedistal. As far as the metal itself, their consistency and properties are pretty much the same. The compression really isn't a problem with the S5's, I believe their both equally as reliable engines, the S5 just suffers from more crap to go wrong (ie boost control solenoids, electronic oil pumps, more boost, etc)

Yeahhh... Don't quote me on that...

Regardless. in the end, when the original poster said he wanted to swap a s5 13BT into an s4 TII--I think it's proven that this would be a pointlessly complicated swap and the negative would outweigh the positive... Yes.
