Dsport getting in touch with their rotary side
I like to look through import mags to see if there are any rotaries in them. Ive found a few mostly FD's but a FC once and awhile. Anyway yesterday i picked up the new Dsport and if anyone has seen their project cars.....they have a lot! But to my surprise the newest addition is a TII. My only hope is that they do something worthy with it.

Anyway, the reason I originally asked what your suggestion(s) were is because I have a general idea of what I want to do and how to do it, but just wanted to hear what other rotary owners would like to see in a project FC.. also, you So Cal guys, if you could have anyone build/port your motor, who would you ask to do it?
In the meantime, I'm still digging through the forum looking for more information..
thanks

dave (guitarjunkie28) from www.rotaryheads.com does absolutely kick-*** work.. he works in el monte @ lucky7 racing... he rebuilt my motor, bridge=ported it..and did a thousand other things to get my car to sevenstock..
oh, and i totally agree w/ what you wanna do... if you start to veer towards the crazy modded car.. you'll lose the enthusiasm of many fc guys who wanna see what can be done to a fc on a real budget.. not the other magazines cars who's "budget" cars have 400rwhp and a full catelog of hks and greddy products.. i always find it funny how they say its a budget car.. but half the **** they are getting for the car cost more than the car itself..
whats you budget gonna be?

I did take a look at rotaryheads's website (after seeing the business cards on your car) and they seem reasonable.. the 3 others I am considering (or have considered) are Rotary Power, XS Engineering, and Speed Machine.. 12 years ago (when I took my running FC apart) Rotary Power was pretty much the shop to go to (at least from what I heard).. I've known the guys from XS for years (about 16 years to be exact) and I trust their work, but they may be out of the budget.. and it seems as though Speed Machine can build a reliable motor since the Falken FD that competes in Formula D gets beat to hell but seems to be running OK.. I used to think that picking a builder or building the motor was going to be the "hardest" part.. but actually, I think thats going to be the easiest part now.. 12 years ago, there wasnt that much variation in "what works".. but after reading through all/most of the project threads on this forum, it seems like everyone has their own opinion and they all "work"..
There isn't really a budget set for the project.. I dont think any of DSport's (or any other magazine's) project cars have a set budget.. but I think everything/every part is considered individually.. what I mean is.. like, I could spend, say $4,000 on a motor build.. but is it really worth it for what I want to do? Like maybe spending $3,000 on a build and saving the extra $1,000 for a better turbo or something is a better choice..
The other thing is, when I took my car apart 12 years ago, it had an upgraded compressor housing on the stock turbo (Turbonetics H3), exhaust, FCON, and the HKS FMIC.. the car has spent time at 3 different shops and has had 3 different exhaust manifolds on it.. I sold the FCON, turbo, and HKS FMIC like 10 years ago..
The car, as it is now, has a custom FMIC with better plumbing, a turbo, cast exahust manifold, and HKS racing wastegate.. I have a crapload of other (brand new) parts including a Haltech E6S (which I will not be using), Fluidyne radiator, Racing Beat clutch and flywheel, Cosmo fuel pump, and some Tokico shocks that I dont even think they make anymore.. and this doesnt even include some of the engine and body parts I have.. oh, and for the record, that Apex sticker was not put there by me either..
So its kinda hard to put a dollar figure on the project since I've basically been collecting parts for the past 12 years.. sad huh?
Anyway, I guess to answer your question, I want the project to cost as little as possible, but still be done right (reliable).. its not really an answer, I know..

one more shop you can try is rotary reliability and racing in santa ana they were at sevenstock also with a fleggling racing FC and a bonniville landspeed FC sponsored but redondo pd. i also know that dsport did a article on the track car that was built there as well. Louie the head mechanic there is a cool guy and he knows his **** and the owner Nick has been racing and building rotaries for more than 25 years.
