Drive on May 25th
Just wanted to see who's up for it. It would start in San Diego and run up to north county.
Some details:
Departure Point
Date: Sunday, May 25, 2008
Meet: 9:30 am; driver’s meeting at 9:45am
Depart: 10:00 am (sharp)
Directions to departure point:
Safari Coffee
1012 West El Norte Parkway, Escondido
El Norte Parkway Plaza
Park to RIGHT, near Wendy’s.
(Ref Thomas Guide, dtd 1999 – plate 1109:F6)
[Fastest exit, from the south, is I-15 North @ El Norte Pkwy; go West or LEFT. Turn RIGHT at Vons sign.]
I'll be there for sure. Got my SE running!
If your familiar w/ John's cruises then you know this promises to be very nice.

Obviously, I'm down for the drive.
The drive starts from the same location as for the April 6th drive, that near 200 mile run through the mountains and deserts of San Diego County. We start on the north side of Escondido and end up in Temecula for some late lunch.
This one will be only 65 miles. But, in that short space you will get your fill of curves, steep ascents and some nice cruising. Part of the route is over roads we have covered before, but there will also be some interesting new ones. Perhaps you know some of these roads.
- Gopher Canyon Rd
- Sage Rd
- W Lilac Rd
- Old Hwy 395
Later this evening I will post a basic map to provide an idea of the route. I will also provide a file for Google Earth whereby you can preview the run through its "Play Tour" capability. This is akin to a "chase" view such as when following a car, but much higher. This is more like following in a helicopter.
We know it's short notice, but sometimes things just don't come together until the last mintute. If you have the time over that long weekend, you won't regret it.
Later,
John

Attached is an overview map for the upcoming drive. It will provide a rough idea of the route.
Also attached is a file that can be used with Google Earth. This will allow you to, sort of, run the course in case you cannot make it or you need something to convince you to go.
Just click on this second file and download it for opening later. UnZIP the file and you will find a ".kmz" file that can be opened in Google Earth. If you do not have Google Earth, you can get it at the above link.
See you next Sunday,
John

Eh... Don't have one. Maybe someone can bring some extras if you have them?
I wonder how many will actually show up... I'm going to see if I can get a friend to ride shotgun with me, I also told two other friends who said they might (read: probably not) come in a Mustang Cobra, if that's ok.

More than welcome to bring any flavor of car. Every once in a while we get some variety.

Yep, it's still on!
We always follow through unless there is a serious weather problem. I believe only once have we had to cancel. Other times, we have just changed the route.
See everyone later this morning.

Thanks John for a nice drive. I needed that. After lunch ( Thanks Mike! ) I ended up at Santa Ysabel. Couldn't resist getting some pie! Beautiful weather, good company, and great cars! That's what I call a weekend.....

Gary, you're quite welcome.
It definitely was a great day for a drive! Good to see some different faces. I'll have to put those two new roads in my back pocket for future reference.
A big "Thanks" to Mike for lunch!!!
My treat next time we're in the neighborhood together.

I'll have the pics up tomorrow, I've just been too lazy to go grab the camera from my car and upload the few that I took.
It was great fun, hope I'll still be here if another cruise/run comes around!
