CA Dependable motor swap info for CA

My 84 SE is having a coolant seal issue and I need to replace the motor. I am having quiet some trouble finding a replacement that's under 3k. I would like to put a 13brew or T2 motor. Does anyone have info on making the car Ca smog legal while putting one of these motors in? Is it even possible. My SE is my daily driver, any helpful info will be muchley appreciated. I have tried to research and having a hard time finding DEPENDABLE information.

Thank You

if your complaining about $3K to rebuild your GSL-SE motor, it will cost you more to do a TII "smog legal conversion." Im sure by now, most original TII motor are blown or about to blow so there goes the stock rebuilt or mild port plus complete engine harness ECU exhaust and what not.

To answer your question, yes. It's been done more than a few times.

Use your existing front cover on a S4 TII block so it can be mounted, retain all the smog parts, add some muffler shop work to marry your FB cat back to the TII cat, and you're good to go.

There is no problem putting in engine etc from any year RX7 built after the year your FB was built. But you'll have a much easier time finding S4 parts to do it.

Do you recommend buying a motor/ecu/trans or should but a whole t2 car? I've been reading t2 chronicles but still a little concerned with the wiring. And don't mean to sound stupid but how do you find a ref to aprove your car. This is my first experience with a legal swap.
(damn you smog)
