wow ive never seen that site before. quick browsing found this

http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/de...eo/D-186-4.pdf

would that mean the HKS SMF kit is exempt also and anyone having it along with a printout of this document could be spared some trouble?

87-89 1.3 liter mazda rx7 ONLY. you have to have the CARB sticker on it, or have the paperwork with you with some sort of marking on it. the carb sticker shows the eo# and if you dont have it, be prepared to deal with some bs that you cant back up.....sucks, but its the fact of the matter
let it be known, if you find something on the ARB website, doesnt mean you can slap that part on and not expect some hastling by cops unless it has the sticker and you have the paperwork...its the way of the world

remember cop will use ANYTHING against you. For the guy that posted pics of his FC engine bay, if my cop had pulled you over, he'll give you the same ticket as me for the blue couplings. It all depends on the cop . But having back-up such as a print out that says it as clear as day that what we have ISNT illegal: should make our lives easier.

I'm trying to find a printout that explains how intercoolers are also not illegal. If anyone finds it please share it with us.

go to the smogcheck.ca.gov and look around. it will state something about turbocharged cars and how as long as the intercooler is used and not swapped with a water to air or something else, then it is legal. see, turbo charged cars and the supporting mods are such a grey area thing. if you got 2 smog techs, both with experience and 0 citations, they will argue the validity of the bylaws and such.........again, california is SOOOOO ******* weird.
at the end of the day, the ONLY person with authority to say if something is 100% illegal or legal is a REF. good luck finding one, they are kinda hard to find due to the budget crisis..........

That sux man. I don't know how you RX7 owners handle the harassment from Cops these days. What RX7 isn't stock? They could just pull any RX7 off the road and would most likely find something illegal.

Its the name of the game. While I am not gonna say let cops run over you, at this point in time you're going to get hassled. For the most part I am happy the cops crack down. Lets stupid "car guys" or "tuners " out there crashing or screwing things up right.

As for the silicon hose, guys crazy XD

Not sure if this really exempts anyone from IC mods /w stock turbo(s), but here is what I've seen from the smog check guide for CA:

See page 83 (it's in the appendix). Hope this helps.

Look at page g-6 and G-7 on that.

It says as long as you have all your emissions equipment that they are not required to check for a CARB E.O. for Intercoolers for oem turbos

yup, they could easily write you for a strut bar lol
and if you tried to explain what it was, they would jus say "you can get it written off at teh BAR" lol

Im not really planning on any more mods /turbo upgrades unless I get this car off the road as my primary..

um, that makes no sense. they wouldent write you a ticket for anything structural, but anything that involves anything electrical or appears emissions related then yes. like the front mount thing, but never will a cop **** with you over a strut bar or anything like that................
but your point is valid, they will **** with you over anything and will try to leave you to the mercy of a ref or dmv.
hell, when i had a full system, i got fucked with for my capacitor "is that a nos bottle"................ya, cause a nos bottle is wiring in series with a sub.........oh well.
i fought with that cop for an hour of everything on my car, he finally backed down.
and i live in norcal, i heard socal is far worse

This is why I carry not only the Executive Orders for my equipment, but also written sign off by the ref so there is no ground for second guessing about my set up.
