I just jumped straight into the course and then took the test to get the full M1 license. If you plan on getting the license, just skip the permit part.

How much is bike insurance typically? I have my eye on a honda cb 550.
So the course is less than a week long? I can have my license that fast?

I did liability only since I got my bike for next to nothing. Mine comes out to about $60/month.

Look up the schedules for the MSF in your area...I did the one week schedule (classroom session on a Thursday evening, riding sessions sat. and sun. morning). They then mail you the certification within a few days, and you can pretty much go to DMV at that point, take the written test, and get your license mailed to you in a few weeks with a temporary paper license.

Insurance for me is also about $50-60/month.
