looks like about a 4.5 hours drive from san diego to the track. I hope to get out there saturday afternoon and hang out with the saturday class and take some pictures track side.
If anyone from the Phoenix or Chandler area want to hook up this weekend and hang out saturday around the track area please let me know.
I'll be driving out there in the FD for the event.

Hey Mike,
Looks like you're doing the Intro to Racing. Should be great fun! If I were coming back from Thanksgiving vacation just a day earlier, I would have been tempted to join you.
I went through a couple of the courses, previously. Terriffic learning experiences in the car control segment. Below is a link to my experience in 2006. A couple of pics attached, as well.

Recommendation for the trip, if you haven't gone this route before ...
Take the 2-lane route to Maricopa, vice staying on the Interstate. Officially the longer route time wise, but a heck of a lot more fun!
At Gila Bend take the US 85 North exit. Takes you through town, if you want a break. Shortly after you leave town, take the AZ 238 (Maricopa Rd), Right turn. If you pass the airport, you've missed the turn. Maricopa Rd runs straight for a ways, but then it can get interesting.
Later,
John

they are running a special for the single day event @ $1030 all inclusive for the day. Starts at 9am and ends around 5pm.
John thank you for the information you must of had a blast of a time. I am some what concerned with the driving distance to and from the event.
I plan on shooting some photographs on saturday at the track. Getting there saturday and not sunday will give me enough time to rest up and not be burned out from the drive to the track.
I am looking at the most direct driving direction out to the track, since i'll be driving the FD out there I want to avoid the long route and shoot straight through the 8 east and then to the 347 pass into Chandler.
If you have any change of plans to attend please let me know
I am looking forward to the skid control portion of the course. I been having lateral G issues driving the FD and would love to resolve the matter driving in the Corvettes to iron things out a bit.

John---I just looked at the 8 to 85 into 10 east Pheonix route passing through downtown and it looks interesting!!! Driving through the 85 takes me into Gila Bend Indian Reservation then into some beautiful landscape area. Interesting!!!!!
Mike,
Yes, if you're looking for the fastest route to save time, stay on I-8 the longest and then 347 going north.
For the last few miles to the school, there is a turn to watch out for. Easy to go right past it. I tried to put a link below. You'll need to make a left turn to stay on 347.
Unusual Turn
Keep a "Heads up" for the highway police for a ways past Yuma. At times they seem to be very active.

Great link!!! thank you for the heads up. I'll see how early i can leave on saturday to leave options open for the other routes to the track.
Glad you told me about the Police speed traps in the area. I recently went to Las Vegas and on the way back I got ticketed for blasting through the desert area coming back into California
The last thing i need is another speeding ticket from State of Arizona to go along with the one from Nevada.

I sure hope so. In any case, this is about the closest location and given the time restriction this school looks to be promising. Worst case I'll have a better understanding of skid control and weight transition/transfer from this course.
Made it back safe and sound.
Few things just off the top of my head.
*FD is not the best car for long road trip
*1 day event @ Bondurant is not enough
*They encourage the students to beat the Vette-ZO6 and any other cars to death

Yea! One day is not enough.
... and you thought a 3rd gen was a money pit!!!
Nice to wear out someone else's tires.
Hopefully you'll make it to the meet this Saturday. Love to hear more about your experience. I see there there may have been some rain in the area. Did that make it more interesting?
If ya want a slightly different twist, try FastLane / McKeever up at Willow Springs in Rosamond. They've got a good program, too. However, not in a Vette.

No rain, thank god however, We did run into what the locals call a "Flash DUST storm".
The visibility went from clear blue sky to get in your storm bunkers in about 5 seconds flat
I really had a blast!!! Amazing how crappy my FD is in comparison to 2009 C6 Corvette.
It was a easy breeze to drive the 425HP beast. I could not get over how forgiving the car was in the hands of a stupid beginner.

A kid half my age drove out the attend the event in this thing that his daddy bought him!!!
At least he was smart enough to take a class in order to respect his new toy.

That is awesome. Would have loved to do that!!! And the Lambo... what kind of dad would be dumb enough to get his kid one of those (a rich one, obviously)? I think the C6 'Vettes are really nice, I wouldn't mind having a ZO6 as a 3rd car
