Believable purchasing price for 93 FD at DMV?

Hey guys,

I just got me a 93 RX-7 and wanted to know the lowest believable purchasing price you guys have put down when registering your FDs. I'm in CA, and for everybody here I'm sure everybody agrees that the lower the tax the better. I just need an idea of numbers that have worked at the DMV that haven't caused them to reject that value and use their own designated value instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated =)

But doesnt the insurance company look at that stuff if you car ever gets into an accident or is totaled. You dont want them giving you back less then you actullay paid for it?

$1. If you want to feel a bit better, you can put $100. Your yearly registration amount is calculated based off of the purchase price of your vehicle.

And the insurance company pays you for the market value of your vehicle, not how much you paid for it.

No gift tax, just 15$ for transfer fee. And yes, what DomFD3S said, registration is based on how much you bought the car for.

If you and the seller agree on a price....DMV does not have any more to say about it. Of course it is fraud, but the National Gurad is busy right now.

The annual taxes are what that particular model is being taxed that year. all 1993 Fds will pay the same amount for yearly road tax.

The SALES tax is what will be determined by the purchase price. This will be a one time fee and it is only 7.75%? or 8%

10,000 x 8%=$800
5,000 x 8%= $400 etc.

Oh, and although it is a price agreed on between the seller and the buyer, if DMV feels that the price is too low they can use a market value of the car instead right? I know it's a give and take with that and people have debated the idea, but just wanted to know what you guys thought or had experience with.

Just put down $1000. How are they to know it doesn't need serious body, paint and engine work and worth next to nothing, right? Seriously, they don't care.

if it's a gift, you have to have the person that sold you the car, or "gave you the car" sign on a specific part of the title that it was indeed a gift.

Make sure you and the seller agree... since he has to fill out paperwork on how much he sold it for. For the transfer of title, and if those numbers are vastly different THAT might raise a flag...
