Being Sneaky

Ca law states we must run stock ecu's to pass smog. Okay here is where the sneaky part comes in to play. How can the smog tech tell if I'm running a stand alone vs stock? Aren't they "hidden" away?

I know smog Tecs are supposed to look for the CEL when they turn the key. In my case, my PFC pretty much killed off the CEL so thats one way a smog Tec could know something is up.

Do they hook up a code reader to see that the ECU is doing?

Depends on the car. My 87 has no CEL on it. All they do is check timing, egr, and visual ****. Then check the gas tank for leakage. SO if you have no CEL to begin with like me the smog tech wouldn't know.
