Arnahls the car enthusiast Terminator is at it again
First he kills the rolling 30 year smog exemption that really did nothing but hurt the car enthusiast, and now this!!!! And I used to like this guy. If you want to complain, click ththis link http://sites.activatedirect.com/runn...xki2zqhlmbcmsw
Note to Mods, this is a California car thing. So seems most appropriate to be here in the Wester Forum rather than in the global Lounge.
As I write, serious proposals are being made to raise the Car Tax back to record levels -- basically tripling what every California car owner pays to government for the privilege of owning a car, or cars.
This could not come at a worse time for California taxpayers. The economy is in bad shape, and California families are struggling to make ends meet. The last thing we need is a huge increase in our annual DMV bill!
Taxpayers need to make their voices heard so the politicians don't just take the easy road. Click here to contact your elected officials in Sacramento and let them know that tripling the Car Tax is not the answer!
Tough choices should be made instead to end government programs that don't make sense right now.
Sincerely,
Senator George Runner

California has been on a spending binge for years and now with the economy faltering badly we face record budget deficits. Rather than cut wasteful government spending, the politicians have instead targeted taxpayers to bail them out again! As I write, serious proposals are being made to raise the Car Tax back to record levels -- basically tripling what every California car owner pays to government for the privilege of owning a car, or cars.

The moment he was sworn in, he turned around and signed the paperwork to LOWER the car tax we had back then. Anyone remember that one? Now he wants to raise it back up?
I was working for an Acura dealership when the fees were raised, the registration and tax on an MDX was almost $10,000. It killed our business.

The rolling 30 years stopped rolling in, as I recall, 2006. So it stopped with 1976 and earlier cars.
Wacky knows for sure and he's always bragging how his Old Schools went up in value as a result.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
The CA registration tax was cut back almost 8 years ago. The tried to repeal the cut once when the state was running out of money, only to have it bite them in the *** at that time, and they returned it back to current rates.
I expect the same thing to happen this time.

Update. I strongly urge everyone to click the far above link!!!!!!
I just received this. Form your own opinion of this situation, but it seems pretty obvious to me.
Liberals in Sacramento are intent on punishing car owners.
Under the cloak of the holiday season, liberals introduced SB 6X and AB 6X in Sacramento yesterday as a part of the "Special Session" of the Legislature prior to recently elected legislators coming to town.
This proposal would triple the amount every car owner in California pays to register their car annually, even as the economy continues to crater and family budgets are tightening significantly. Happy Holidays from Sacramento liberals! Click below to see a video of me on the Senate floor speaking against tax increases for Californians.

Basic economics called the Trickle Down effect. If you suck $ out of the system that would otherwise go to consumption, there is less money to buy stuff.
The problem is, the economic mess we're in causes less income to be made (ie less income tax to be paid) leading to less consumption (ie less sales tax collected) causing state revenues to go down. California still has to pay their bills, so they go to less elastic platforms such as auto registration (which you HAVE to pay to drive, and Californias have to drive more than most states) to raise state revenue.
