i heard from a friend that vehicles without a clear coat over the paint is illegal or something??? i was like wtf.

can anyone fill me in? cuz was going to go flat black on my fc.

You need to contact your states DMV and ask them instead of posting multiple posts/threads on this question.

 

my cousin has a flat black ae86 and he hasn't had any problems with it.

a two stage paint is illegal now. they only allow the single stage paint. dkwasherexed will chime in to tell you the detail's of the whole bullshit situation. since he is the one who painted my first gen and is a painting masta.

yeah cali laws are different than otehr states. Cali is the most strict state.
Pretty much in Cali, all solvent based paints is illegal to use and carry. If you get caught with solvent paint, its like getting caught with marijuana, youll get a big fine. Theyve moved up to water based paints now.. But yeah, even single stage solvent paints are ilegel in cali.. In washington you need clear coat? that sounds super weird to me. What is this world turning into??????

I'm pretty sure cali has to use water based paints now.... not sure about the clear coat thing here.

 

I'm using oil based paints for my current repaint but they said it was illegal to paint my car brown because it has never been done so I cried in a corner for 20 minutes.

 

This was one of the big contributing factors to the Chevy Camaro plant moving out of Van Nuys, to Canada in the early 90's... and why you see a lot of late 80's/early 90's Chevys with the clearcoat falling off like a bad sunburn, as they didn't have the formulas quite right yet.
