Question Anyone have a spare instrument cluster I can borrow near North Hollywood?

Hey guys

There's a shop out in North Hollywood that I was going to have work on my instrument cluster, but I'm cross country near DC. They've worked on all sorts of clusters, esp. Porsche VDO clusters, and have been in it for 50 years now (since 1955). They're literally the BEST shop there is (hence why I want this shop). http://www.nhspeedometer.com/

But here's the thing...they aren't familiar w/ RX-7s, and have no way of telling whether or not they can work on the FD's gauge cluster w/o having it directly in front of them. I'm weary of taking mine out and sending it over, as there's all sorts of issues w/ shipping, damage, getting lost etc, which would give me probs w/ original mileage, etc etc...it would be a long problem to fix if anything happened, all in the name of having them LOOK at it to see if it's something they can work on (if I know for sure they can do it, that's a diff story, the risk's worth taking). Plus, I only have the cluster on my FD NOW lol..so it would be kinda hard to drive w/o it until I got it back

So, I'm curious if someone in that area has a spare instrument cluster they wouldn't mind running over there, just to have them LOOK at. They wouldn't do anything to it...just see if it has the necessary components for what I want to have done. I'd obviously pay for time, effort, gas, etc. With an appointment, it should be a "walk in, walk out" type of deal. So if anyone would be so kind as to help me out, I'd GREATLY appreciate it.

They're located at 6111 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91606.

Thanks
~Ramy

Would they be able to tell by looking at pics? I have my cluster half way off right now and wouldn't mind snapping a necessary amount of pics and emailing them if that was an option (of course mine has the ricer reverse glo guages wired in to the cluster ). Whats wrong with your cluster?

North Hollywood Speedo is great. 8 years ago they recalibrated my 914 Porsche gauges and cleaned them up. The plastic facing was also replaced to glass. They truely do quality work.

Gary, I really appreciate the offer, but I'd wanna stick w/ an FD cluster, since I have no idea what the differences are.

Yea...their reputation preceeds them. I actually found out about them from a local Porsche race-prep shop I've drooled over for years now, right next to my house. Apparently they're huge in the Porsche community...

Anyways...still lookin

Do you care if it's jspec? If not I'll ask an importer guy if he has one or can get a hold of one.

I believe they're all essentially the same...I don't think (but also don't know if) anything changed in the later years. I just wouldn't want a Mazdaspeed or FEED cluster etc. Just a regular stocker.

Oh and I don't want you going to the trouble of buying one for me man. I really appreciate it, but that's a bit beyond the call of duty If worst comes to worst, I'll have to try and find a used cluster for sale somewhere and send that in...

Thanks

Hmmm, I go past their shop all the time, but I don't have a spare cluster.

Now if it was "North Hollywood Air Separation Tank" I'd have you covered....

I have a '93 Cluster, that's kind of pin pieces... I took my 94 Cluster out of my wreck, and soldered the speedo from the odometer to keep the milage correct, but swap out stuff I liked better in the '94 I had gotten used to.... I belive I sold the tach, but I have the speedo, and the rest of the gauge pod, and oil, rad temp, fuel etc... still in there... should give them a good idea...

Thanks guys.

DC, I really only need the speedo and tach. If you have the tach, great. If not, I'd still want them to take a look @ the speedo if you'd be so kind. I'm guessing both gauges are the same type/mechanics etc, ie if they can work on the speedo, then they can work on the tach. I hope.
