How about wakesurfing?

Last week at Shasta behind my boat, lots of weight, Tequila and boobies!

We went wake boarding and wake surfing yesterday. And we had some jet skis there too.

is skimboarding where you throw down the disk, run to catch up with it, then fall over as soon as it touches the water?

I used to skimboard back in the day when the surf was small or the tide was fucked up. If you are a beginner, any board will do really.

i'd try it, but the cops would probably arrest me for registration on the board or something.

Oh no! Not water maggots!

Where did you go? Lake Beryissa?

It's all fun and games until you pull up to the dock and pay $5.00/gallon

Believe it or not, I skimmed semi-professionally for 3 summers when I was in high school. By "semi-pro" I ain't claiming I made any money or anything, I just got free boards from J Gordon and a couple spring suits from O'Neill.

The nearest beach to my house is 26th ave, a world class skim spot with overhead shorepound.

that's a lot of effort to be on the board for ~4 seconds at a time.

When I lived in SC for a few months I hit up 26th one time. It was a pretty fun wave. I went to this other place off PCH too. My buddy referred to it as "2 mile" or something because it was two miles out of SC.

Fumanchu, that was probably 4 Mile.

I live about three blocks from 26th ave...a little 26th skim/BBQ meet might be fun. We oughtta wait 'till it warms up alittle bit, though, 'cause skimming in a fullsuit is begging for ball-rash.

I was learning to skim until this bulldog got ahold of my board at the beach....

Its pretty easy (and really cheap!) to make your own:

Take a profile from a known good board
cut it out of some plywood
soak it in water for a day or two
weigh it down with the correect rocker bent in until it dries
varnish+varnish+varnish

Total cost: about $15

At least that's how I did it. It worked pretty well as far as I could tell, but I never got very good at it.
