Another shop gone :(
Well as you all know there is a shop that is closing down here in the next few days/weeks
Rotary Evolution in Vegas
Karack is one hellava guy! In times of desparity he is willing to bend over backwards to help a guy out.
I have never personally met him but if I have, I would still hold him in as high of regaurds as I do now.
If you need anything at all, for future builds, or to restock some inventory, send him a pm and he will hook you up.
Its to bad to see another shop close its doors, with the demand getting
higher and higher and price of parts going up and up, the vast majority of us who would love to spend the money, and cant. Makes us learn how to do things our selves.
This hurts the shops that know the most about these cars. Although these shops suffer and close thier doors, they dont damn those who are willing to learn on thier own, and are still willing to help even in tuff times such as these.
So if you are a diy person and are planning a new build in the future, or just need more parts for inventory, take the time to talk to him and help him out.
Im sure in the future if he re-opens his doors wherever it maybe. He will remember us little people who gave a ****!
I am not promoting him! .......as it may seem....... I am just a new satisfied costomer that wishes it were possible for shops like his to stay around.

P.S. farewell Rotary Evolution

appreciation is the only thing that has kept me going over the years but eventually you have to do something for yourself before you get completely burnt out to point of wanting to even sell your own rotary powered vehicles and leave it all behind.
thanks for the support i have been given over the years by those who didn't go to the larger volume shops, it really has helped quite a bit knowing some of you have gone out of your way to bring me business hundreds to thousands of miles away.
i am simply keeping my promise to myself that as soon as i had to pay out of pocket again for a month or more that i would be done with it, it broke me building the business giving up my house to keep it and broke me again moving 30k lbs of equipment a thousand miles from home, third time is enough.
but this really doesn't belong in the technical area, regardless of how much i appreciate the intent.

Ben,
I am so sorry to hear this as this business is not easy in it's current economical status.
I hope the best for you and may everything be more smooth from now on.
You've rebuilt my engine and I am still loving it (Even though it is on my engine stand)!!!!
Anyways, I will keep an eye open for you if there are anyone that needs their engine rebuilt or drives a rotary which are near Vegas or even in LA, I will head them your way.
Thank you for being so supportive on the forum and in reality.
Best of luck to you buddy!

Let's just hope that a new business can be born and this knowledge will be transferred to some other area out of respect for genuinely inspring expertise and in-depth knowledge which has few rivals.

yeah guess I did post in the wrong section... whoops I guess I just spend most of my time in that section that I didnt even realise it until you siad something Ben. Either way looks like the mods were nice and just moved it for me. Thanks for that Ill try and place my threads in their prospective place next time around
Ben, like I said if you move your shop to bay area I would be one of the regular customer. I got a lot of plan on the car.....
a few rx-7 owners I talked to also have trouble finding good shop in the bay area for their rx-7. There's only 2 or 3 around here and their "waiting line" is ridiculous. example: leave the car up to 3 months for a rebuild...

it's very difficult to take care of everything in a timely manner when there are many things you have to do throughout the day, and some jobs get shuffled around just to save yourself some aggravation.
several months isn't unrealistic for most shops to build an engine, unless they have a crew. which is why some shops do better than others, but you will also lose some of that one on one personability. not knowing who exactly built your engine, who installed it, who did repair "x" and who tuned it. i honestly hate looking over other people's shoulder, fixing what i don't consider "proper" or opinionated building. and i really hate people who rip and tear these cars apart. i will tell you that i consider most of these to be "restoration projects" over "an engine rebuild". these cars are 18-25+ years old now, bordering into classic car territory. there is many things i fix during a rebuild that i don't even bother to tell you all about, the wiring harnesses i always rewrap because they won't last in their original condition, some clips break and that is a given, some minor issues just aren't worth mentioning either because things ALWAYS break on these cars during assembly/disassembly, that is also where other shops nickel and dime you to death.
most of the time that i am set back is dealing with those issues, it moves my whole schedule behind and causes all jobs to take longer than i say they should. just prepare yourself for it, these aren't new cars and even if i'm just bolting on a simple part, something you brush up against may give you issues that cost a day or 2 to fix, multiply that by as many cars ahead of yours and you see where i am going with it.
as far as moving back, sorry to say but that isn't in the cards either. i spent nearly $10k moving here, even if i do stay busy in california i just don't have it in me to do it all over again selling off my property to start over again, hoping it lasts, hoping to make more than a thousand a month in profit or that winter time i will have enough work to stay afloat. i have no medical insurance, after this week i will have 0 retirement left, all i will have is what's in the shop and some cars constantly breaking from neglect of spending all my time trying to make this work.
i simply don't want to be stuck working until the day i die, breathing in smoke and having my eyes burn tuning cars and starting rebuilds having just what is in my wallet and a broken car in the garage while i work 70-80 hours a week.
that is the best explanation i can give.
about the most annoying thing is when i find some hacked up car, bandaided together, that really makes me want to bash my brains into a wall. and keep in mind almost all of these cars now have those repairs in some form on your cars. it took me nearly 15 ******* minutes to pull a battery out of a car a few days ago because someone thought it was a good idea to tie the strap into a knot.... do i want to deal with this forever? no. bring in a car for tuning with no gas? no. try to diagnose a car that has a completely dead battery? no. these are daily occurrences that i usually accept, but not indefinitely. just be considerate to whoever is working on your car, help them out, save them some sanity, please.
i will be talking to some of the exotic and european shops in the near future.

i know there is, i left it with the hope that someone would take my place being conscious that an engine doesn't need all brand new parts and cost $5k to build just the engine alone. unfortunately there still is that hole, chris greene still builds engines in a hole in the side of a mountain near ione or in the hills somewhere northeast of sacramento so be weary.
i had hopes that the desert with such a large population and no shops to really speak of for rotaries would work. unfortunately as similar to sacramento digging the rolling shells out of peoples garages and building them up took a toll on me with the gaps and holes between larger jobs.
i do appreciate the locals here who have brought me business but in the end it was a much larger market in northern california. globally the market shrinks every year though and eventually the smaller shops just have to accept they either go big or go home, after losing the house i opted to never have a debt again so taking a loan out to gamble with isn't in the future of expanding and hoping to do a more national or global market while usable parts sources dwindle.
just 2 days ago i went to the wreckers to see about some FC parts, there was 1 FB and 0 FCs in the yards i went to. no one selling engines or shells for reasonable turnaround profit prices so there is no way for me to keep inventory coming and going here.
yes cali is a place of opportunity for a rotary shop but it will still be a difficult one to earn the trust in and overcome the issues i mentioned.
i don't think we will be moving for several years but the more i hear the girlfriend talk about florida the more i just want to get out of here. i miss the beach.
RX8 is the future market, but most still seem to not be rotary enthusiasts and will still be years before people start to really tear into them, mod them and find more commonly available parts for them, and i just can't wait for that.

so when is the closing down party. I would like to be there so I can pick and choose from your pile of junk RX parts

and what beach do you miss? Sacto is hundred miles away from the coast and the closest one in vegas is at Mandalay Bay
Or maybe you miss the Sacto boys dressed as bitches

Just busting your *****...I'm sure you will rebound in a short time....also, screw the shop, do it in your backyard as most of us have done. BTW, Rich and I stopped your shop last Saturday noon but it was closed.
