Alternator issues 85 rx-7 se. . .

I started my car last night with a new battery and it cranks over slow - I tried this morning, now it doesn't even start. It now has a 55amp alternator (I think) with a 800amp battery. Do I need to get another alternator? If so, do I need to go with a 2nd gen alternator?

Take it to Autozone.

They have an alternator testing machine.

If you order it from them, the it could be another faulty one.

Be careful and good luck.

+1 about having Autozone check it out. I've got a good used one for your GSLSE I'll sell you if you're in need. I have an 85 GSLSE myself.

In Chino Hills.

I would upgrade, or have your current one redone, not sure what will fit in the 85 so cant advise on that but 55A is super low, hope you don't have to stop with the headlights a/c and radio on, car may just die lol..

but just about any parts store can test the current one, one thing they may not test is the wiring that is in the car, I would look into that as well, make sure its wired up properly, again I know nothing about the 85 wiring or anything but I am sure with a search in the 1st gen section you could find some good info...

S4 is a direct swap and S5 just need minor re-wiring. I've talked to him last weekend.
