Advice Needed - US Visit from the UK
Guys and girls, I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to advise me of a decent hotel on a budget of about $100 per night, somewhere in/around L.A., north or south.
Is this a good budget or do I need to spend a little more than that?
Also when getting a hire car, do I need to take all the different insurance extra's?
Sadly I wont be out until Friday 28th Sep, so I'm going to miss Rotorstock.
Thanks
Fish

All I know about is the Rental car thing
GET THE INSURANCE!!!!
It releases you from liability for ANYTHING!! Even if you intentionally drive the car off of a cliff . . you are covered. Even if it doubles the price of the rental . . . GET IT!!!!!!!!

theres tons of hotels in Los Angeles. Where exactly are you planning on staying? Check out hotels.com orbitz.com and expedia.com for hotels and car rentals. Some of these websites have the same hotel/room for a cheaper price. For example, if you find a room on orbitz.com, check expedia and hotels.com for the same hotel. Sometimes you'll find it cheaper on one of the other sites.

FatFree, sadly I cant do that.
I'll check out Orbitz, but I was really after a recommendation. If I need to spend some more per night then I should be able to do that.
I dont mind where I stay really, as I have no set plans other than to relax and enjoy the weather. [Flame suit on) The only part of my holiday that is hard booked is going to Denver to watch the Broncos play San Diego on Oct 7th.
Thanks

No it's not Turbo'd
If you purchase a rental car with a Gold or Platinum Cedit card, you are typically covered for anything going wrong, as part of your "Premium" status on the card, and can waive the insurance, but it's up to you really, what kind of driving / plans you have for your trip.
Having driven in Europe, and Australia, I know driving on the "Wrong / Right / Left" side of the road can cause you to make the wrong descision, even if only for a moment especially if you're tired. So maybe that's a concern.
As for hotels, I would post some that you found "Right" price wise, and ask for oppinions on the area, and make your selection then, we all know the different neighborhoods around here, but we're not travel agents and don't know prices for each and every Hotel.
Good Luck, Hope to see you when you're here if nothing other than for a little get-togerther at a parking lot / hangout / watering hole...

DCrosby, driving on the other side of the road hasnt really caused any issues in the past. I cant decide if I should stay around Disney or up around Universal.
Wackyracer, sadly I'll either be in Denver or flying to Denver on that Sat.
Thanks

There are quite a few good budget motel/hotels around Disney. Try these websites for reservations. www.desertpalmshotel.com www.cortonainn.com www.anaheimlq.com
www.anaheimplazahotel.com www.jollyrogerhotel.com All of these should be at or under $100 per day.
I think Dollar Rent a Car (www.dollar.com) has the best prices and lowest cost insurance. The rental agencies offer several different types of insurance but the only insurance that you really need is the CDW (Collision Damage Waiver). At Dollar it is priced at $15 per day as opposed to $20-24 for other companies. CDW is only whats needed and it releases you from responsibility AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE RENTAL AGREEMENT. Always return the car to the location that you rented the car from because if you don't they will charge a huge recovery fee. Always buy your own gas and return the car full.
Hope this helps,
John

OK quick update/another help request.
I'm pretty much decided on going with the Hampton Inn & Suites in Garden Grove.
The trip advisor site seems to give it goods reviews, and a price of $89 + tax per night.
But I was wondering what the area is like and what is local other than Disney.
Thanks
