Hello,
I am taken aback at the hostility directed toward this new member...I asked a serious question thinking someone more knowledgeable about restoring RX-7's might have some suggestion that would allow me to get this car back on the road.
I ran this car in SOLO races the first year I owned and had a great time and met a lot of interesting people. I assumed the RX-7 Club would be a similar experience. Good luck to all of you. I have no desire to continue with this. I'll look for a local club.

teachschool,

I read the thread that you were referring to. To be honest, this forum isn't your scene but it can be if you have the right frame of mind and understand where people are coming from

One has to have a thicker skin to be here and realize that we are a men dominated forum and of course we do not wear 'kid gloves" when talking to each other. We simply call it as we see it. Yeah we may be rude from time to time but at the end of the day we are all (at least most of us) rotary enthusiasts. And more often than not, we band together and help each other out. It really is a great community, once you learn the basic forum etiquette.

Probably the number one rule of the forum is to prior to asking a question one has to at least attempt to do a little bit of research on here. Because we do not take kindly to people who want to be spoon fed (I'm NOT saying that's you, I'm just providing info). One usually gets the best answers by having a basic understanding of the problem and thus having the ability to phrase their question intelligently. From there you will get a few answers in which you will then turn around and do more research. Ultimately getting a better understanding of the problem and hopefully a solution. No only that you gained valuable knowledge in the process. Think of the forum as a learning enviroment, not a Q&A forum.

The reason Sgtblue responded the way that he did is because your post did seem disingenuous with a tone of rotary bashing. Trust me there a LOT of them that pop up from time to time. Truth be told, I didn't think his answer was very bad... But I have been here a long time

Going back to your original problem with your car:

First of not all rotaries are the same. It is the TURBO rotaries that are prone to failures and not the naturally aspirated ones like yours. So what you read about rotary seal failure was not applicable to your make/model. Which brings me to another point: The internet is full of misconceptions about rotary engines so you have to be very careful on where you are pulling that info from. I'm telling you some of the BS that I have read is quite ridiculous and these people act and swear that they know what they are talking about. But they really are clueless. One of the best places for rotary info is right here.

Second since you live in Madison, WI IMO your best best is to contact Banzai Racing as they are in Ohio (Correction: Indiana). They are a very reputable shop and of course they are rotary specialists. I can pretty much guarantee you that they will NOT charge you anywhere close to 7,000. Banzai Racing is actually a forum member that has made a lot of great contributions. So give them a call:

http://www.banzai-racing.com/

A fun fact with owning a rotary: If you don't do the work yourself be prepared to trailor the car to a rotary especialist. Trailing a car a few hundred miles far outweighs having some loser mechanic charge you thousands of dollars and not fixing your car correctly. Take me for example, I live in San Diego, CA the 8th largest city in the country. And there isn't one single mechanic here that I will let work on my car. Nope I trailer mine 140 miles to my mechanic.

Actually we are in northern Indiana, which is even closer to the OP then Ohio.

I read the threat as well. An engine rebuild with install will not cost you $7K.

Just saw this. For posterity this is the thread the OP refers to...

https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...owner-1118019/

Myself and the other readers had to wait until her 3rd post, the 8th in the thread before any clear question was asked. I also wasn’t alone in my initial suspicion that she was a troll. And then there is her repeated mention of her gender and even a suggestion that the dealership wasn’t fair because of alleged sexual harassment?

I also invite anyone to search my posts in that section. I think you’ll find the vast majority were patient with an effort to be helpful. I stand by my comments in that thread.
