upgraded radiator?

Hey guys,

what upgraded radiator fits well with an Apexi GT front mount IC? Its a bit cramped in there already, and I'm wondering which upgrades fits well, and requires minimal modifications to fit.

Thanks.

hmm... I don't have an FMIC, but if your stock radiator fits with the apexi in place, then just about any aftermarket rad. will fit as well.. they are the same dimensions (so they will fir in the stock location with the stock mounting hardware) - except for the width... aftermarket rads are a little bit wider.

Thanks Brian. I don't want to buy a radiator, and then find out that the dang thing doesn't fit.

Width could be a problem though, considering that the IC basically sits right it front of the radiator /fans, and in essence, the IC wraps its "arms" or its inlet and outline pipes around the radiator - gonna have to go home this weekend and take a closer look to see how much room I have. I know someone on the forum must have an Apexi GT FMIC - actually I remember tallking to someone who DID have it in their car, and an upgraded radiator.. just don't remember who that was....

I'm trying to make my Mazda Comp Radiator fit and its a real pain in the ***. I had to cut both sides of the radiator and it looks like I'm gonna have to cut the fan housing. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Here's a few pics:

Very tight fit. Dont know where the dryer is gonna go.

Here you can see contact with the frame.....this really sux!

Hey Accurizing,

thanks for the pic and info. Is that an APEXi GT FMIC? it looks like it, but I don't remember exactly what my FMIC piping looked like.

Let me get this straight -- it was too wide AND too thick? I do not want to have to deal with cutting and such. nor do I want to have to switch out my fans for thinner fans and such -- money is kinda tight these days and i'd like to limit the unnecessary costs - gotta save up for that single turbo kit!

Yep it’s the Apexi alright.

The Mazda Comp radiator I had to cut only because they welded a side lip to both sides, (very unnecessary) you know the one that is foam on the stock. The Fluidyne which is the same size as my Mazda Comp doesn't have the sides so you wouldn't have to cut there. The fan housing is another problem however. It is too close to the sub-frame cross bar. I guess I'll try and shave the housings down a little and see how that works.

Can someone tell me if there are any aftermarket fans that would be an equal or better replacement???

I've got he KOYO installed in the vertical position with my Apexi FMIC. It fit in there with no problems. The only thing is the fans do rest on the frame of the car and I had to bend some of the brackets that came with the intercooler to mount the radiator. No biggie though especially once you see how much bigger the KOYO is than the stock one.

No problem, I'll have some pics up tonight. I'm getting my car back today after getting the 5th gear synchro fix and installing my act flywheel clutch combo. Once I get it back I'll put up some pics.

Hey SilverR1,

what happened to those pics? Btw, my Apexi IC is already in there. I was hoping I could simply pull my radiator out and just put the new one in... um.. why do i get the feeling its not THAT simple. I thought our radiators well held in there by ... 2 or 3 bolts no?

Please post pics if ya got them.

Thanks
