LS1 without a doubt.
in fact I'd use an all stock 2001 LS1 and just have fun with it. a LOT of fun with it. no need for a bazillion horsepowers y0, I just want it to ROMP and it would do just that with a basic LS1 motor, as long as you have the chassis and suspension, wheels and tires to put that power to good use. |
In my opinion i am all rotary, but if i had to put a v8 it would defenitly be a modified 302 block, cuz they can take a hp and spray them and they still keep on running hard, but that just my opinion and my taste.

Ok, BTW quit bashing the rotary engine already, its immature. this is more or less a dream thread anyways. Now, i have played with conventional engines and rotaries, and im here to tell you they both have their ups and downs; Rotaries have ultra smooth power bands, light wieght, less reciprocating parts, and will fit in ANY application. On the down side, they tend to wear a bit more because of the given up moving parts, they are relatively high maintenance(personal experiance with THREE engines) and difficult to boost high levels. The downside to the piston engines has to be the fact that YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. LS1's are cheap and powerful, but a race mechanic could tell you that their build quality is cheap, Not to say that ALL forms of LS1's are cheaply made, but the popular inexpensive swaps ARE. The upside to piston engines is the massive amount of existing knowlege about them. 90% of race mechanics could tell you how they work in their sleep. When i bought my first RX-7 it took a few attempts to understand it. On top of everything, THERE ARE CRAP PISTON ENGINES AS WELL AS CRAP ROTARIES. Its an even playing field in my mind.

4g63 six bolt with about 25 lbs of boost, making 500 horsepower. that ought to get things pretty quick.

you have some funny ideas/beliefs/opinions. :) I would believe that truck motor LS1s can have a hard time with a roadrace use if left all stock, but who does enduros with a completely unmodded truck motor? nobody. |
.....My beliefs are about as close to the real thing as possible. There is no such thing as a perfect engine...... it all comes down to what you want. And because the thread is titled "what v-8 would you stick in your rx7?" Im going to have to say....A CUSTOM CNC MACHINED 400 CI MODULAR V-8. With non- sequential twin turbo's(the 110mm variety) and all kinds of carbon fiber shit. Then even the v-8 guys would feah meh.

if funds were unlimited I would without question drop in a 1997 Ferrari 355 engine and have an RX7 that sounds like this... http://youtube.com/watch?v=4LdaNknrWxs
and this. (skip to 1 minute and 36 seconds) http://youtube.com/watch?v=oeO56-smgxI |
