ls1 cheap to mod and its a fact they make great power...

Eggie 01-04-08 05:43 PM

Does the original question assume a realistic budget? I ask only because I'd love to have an older 3.5L F1 engine detuned to about 600hp.

100 HP/L only works on small, high strung motors. Honda and other "zing" motors don't scale well into larger HP/size area without sacrificing reliability. I'll never understand the HP/L argument. HP/Lbs is an excellent benchmark, as is HP/mpg, though neither is particularly useful without a reliability litmus as well.

I like Honda engines (though they're not for me particularly) and my Impreza's boxer 4 is a great engine (nice torque and >35 mpg highway is excellent). Mercedes, BMW, etc. all have some great powerplants, though they are often complicated for the sheer sake of being complicated.

Perhaps I'm a rough, redneck individual, but I will happily take a simple, efficient and effective OHV V8 with a nice cam that can still irk out ~30 mpg highway.

As I said, I've nothing against BMW, and would drive a 540 any day of the week, it's simply not my preferred method of performance motivation. There are plenty of points of merit for Honda or any other engine in that "breed" without having to fall to the weak "HP/L" discussions.

Oh, and to answer the post, I'd prefer an LSx blocked LS9 engine. 6.2L, 620 HP. Wait, that's 100 HP/L. ;)

any v8, then race my rotary for some money. :)

except the 9 is boosted......no cheating!

Nono, I was making fun of how a lot of Honda ricers say, my engine makes "100 hp/L, it's a superior engine than yours!"

still, 6.2L for 518 hp and 465 ft-lbs aint nothing to mess with.......esepcially since it's NA.

Nah, that wouldn't be fair, 3-rotor engines screw up the handling dynamics of rx7s so he'd be at a disadvantage. :rlaugh:

Why?

Bored.

If you're ever in NC, say SCCA auto x $500-$1000 to the winner?

rotormind 01-14-08 01:30 AM

You guys must not know much about turbotommy rx7.

2MCHPWR 01-14-08 10:34 AM

How many motors have you blown?

But, back to the topic. If money was not a concern, I would definitely drop in a semi-built LS7.

Roen 01-16-08 08:31 PM

hmm.....if money was no concern, I'd drop in the 5.0L V8 BMW engine found in the Ascari A10......625 bhp NA.

90turbo1 01-19-08 11:37 PM

BMW N62, w 6 sp manual from a 545i

just love the way that motor sounds..

rydestandard666 01-22-08 10:54 AM

If money were not an issue I'd go with a hayabusa v8. I forget the name of the company that makes it but they basically take two hayabusa motors (its from a motorcycle for those who dont know) and they build a crankcase to join them together.

wankel=awesome 01-22-08 11:07 AM

Umm...I am currently contemplating both a rotary FB and a Olds turbocharged and intecooled rocket v-8 into an FB. I wish i knew which rotary engine i wanted.....BTW, The oldsmobile aurora v-8 is an awesome 4.0 l v-8.... INDY POWER BITCHES!
